Talking First 1/4 mi passes!

428 mi on the odometer, 52 degrees outside.
Here is my best run:
60 ft: 1.986
1/8 mi: 8.808
1,8 mi mph: 80.45
1/4 mi: 13.718
1/4 mi mph: 99.65

I made 2 more runs, resulting in another 13.71 and a 13.73... too bad we weren't bracket racing cause all three RTs were better than .505 and we'd have been killer!
13.60s @ 100 were oh-so-close, and the truck never was completely cool. If I had wanted to hang around and freeze my butt off, I'm sure I could have netted a 13.69 or better but it was time to go home.
Is this pretty good for a bone stock 00 L with 400 miles on it? I, personally, was extremely impressed! So was the LT1 f-body crowd They all came over wanting to know my mods. Not sure any of them believed me when I said I had none... LOL guess it is hard to justify getting outrun by a stock pickup
Anyway, I just had to say (again) how much this truck impresses me. I LOVE IT!!

I think those are awesome runs. I would be very happy if my new L, (270 miles) runs that good bone stock.

I think the cool air works wonders for Lightnings, apparently it helps us more than others.

I wish I had a track nearby, I'd love to run it like you did, just to see what it'll do.

What was you're launch technique/method?

Tire pressures?

Elevation?

How much gas in tank?

Spare and hitch still on?

Great times! Time to get mine back to the track with cooler air (80* when I ran) and less fuel (had 3/4ths tank).
Mracer - There are plenty of tracks around here for you to race at. We'll get together and go to some if ya want when your L gets back from the body shop!

I do a very short, rolling burnout (3 seconds, max) and one dry hop. I stall it up to about 1200 rpm. Tire pressure was whatever it came off the lot with... LOL Elevation is about sea level. A little less than 1/2 tank of gas. And my spare and hitch were intact. I'm not serious enough about those last few hundredths to mess with removing the spare, hitch, etc. It was 7:00 and I was like, "Hey, lets go to the track!" and so we went. I mean if I were going serious heads-up racing, I would, but for now, I just want to know how it stacks up to other cars under real-world circumstances. And if traction had been a problem, I would have played with tire pressure, etc. but the truck was simply not spinning at all so I didn't worry about it.
But I had a blast, impressed myself, and got some good baseline figures.
Now to start modding

WOW! A 1.98 60' on stock F1s with no pressure change! I wish LSR (LooseandSlipperyRaceway) had bite like that.

Great stock times!These trucks love cold air.The combined weight of the spare and the hitch is 110 pounds.You figured out what its taken me months of patience and practice to do...GETTING THE STOCK TIRES TO HOOK!Best 60' Ive gotten was 1.93.This past weekend i was getting 1.98 and 1.99's...Up to these past two weeks i had never been able to launch it like that.But now after god knows how many trips to the track learning to launch i think i have it down.BTW Great times!This sucker really wakes up with a few mods!Have fun!

Are we sure that that 110 lbs in the rear isn't helping traction-wise more than it is hurting weight-wise? I mean, you guys would know more about it in this case than me but I am thinking that generally speaking, 110 added pounds hurts ET by roughly a tenth. BUT, if you take off that weight from the rear and it hurts your short times by just a few hundredths (say .04), you have completely negated the weight loss. Has anyone had any experience with this? Was it harder to hook up with the spare/hitch gone or did you really see a 1/4 mi improvement?
I'd like to know, for curiosity's sake.

I certainly will not argue with your experiences.. I was simply asking a question! If it has been shown that taking weight off the rear still helps ET, that is wonderful news! Every vehicle reacts differently to weight transfer issues and there are really no universal constants, as far as I know. I am really looking forward to modding this thing, one mod at a time and seeing how each one affects ET and MPH. I am currently shopping chips.
Thanks for sharing your experiences with me. I am not used to racing trucks at all and there is a world of difference between trucks and station wagons when it comes to getting off the line

LOL I love my car!

Kristi,
I do have an ARE LSII tonneau cover on my truck.The thing weighs about 130 pounds.The spare tire is roughly 60 pounds.I took both off and ran my best times ever.The tonneau did nothing for traction.My short times were better than they have ever been.I have found through trial and error that running about 35-38 psi in the rear tires gives better tracion.Burning them up in the water helps alot also.I think where the weight actually hurts the most is on the top end.I did see a quatermile improvement from 13.24 to 13.03 by just removing the tonneau.Track conditions were nearly identical.One would think that having the weight back there would help but it seems to me that it only slows the truck down.I could be wrong and some may argue me on that point.I would like to hear what other member's here have to say.I think a weight transfer would help,like removing the battery and relocating it in the bed.Also an electric fan kit to reduce weight and drag.Seems like youve been racing alot longer than i have and may have a better knowlege when it comes to this weight transfer thing.This summer has been my first experience racing and i feel that i have helped a few at the track better their times through my trials.
