Yet Another "Strange Noise" Thread!
I’m getting an intermittent squeak from the bell housing area after I have driven it for a while (which has been minimal lately due to the weather). It is hard to describe but it’s almost like a bearing noise?
The noise continues in park, neutral, in gear…it doesn’t matter nor does it change, and it’s not loud but noticeable...and intermittent! When I turn it off and let it sit for a while and restart it’s gone until I drive it a while. The tranny/tc seems to be working normally with no hard shifts or codes.
The trans fluid is clear and full and smells like new! Any idea what is going on…TC, pump maybe? The truck is an 01 with 48K easy miles. Has anyone else experienced this problem? I guess I’ll take it into the local Ford dealer from where I bought it but I don’t want to give them a blank check! Any help in narrowing down the problem that I’m sure will only get worse instead of better??

I was searching old tranny/tc related threads and found this. I wonder if this could be my problem:
QUOTE:
Try pulling the pvc out on the drivers and or passenger side. listen for the noise...Mine made noise when it went on a vacuum in the valve cover area...may be related to a collapsed fixed orifice outlet hose on the back of the intake plenum/valley. If that hose is collapsed and or split it will weeze and or squeal ...mostly noticable at idle or low speeds...does it squeal or make weird sounds as it bleeds down after switching the key off?
Just a problem I had for a while till I pullled my pvc. Noticed it right off..in fact I thought it was coming from the bell housing...sounded almost like a bearing going bad..high pitched whine...good luck
Ironically, I just replaced my stock Eaton with a P & P Stieg core a couple of weeks ago and cleaned the i/c. However, my issue started just prior to doing this swap though and the rear pvc line was not removed and inspected and It appeared to be intact. To get too this line one almost has to remove the s/c again, right? Or, at least the plenum?
Since I'm not having any shifting issues I wonder if this could be the problem. Has anyone else experienced this issue?? Anyone know how this pcv line attaches to the rear lower intake? Or, Where I can find a photo or diagram?
