Thinking about a 01 Lightning for a DD....

I use to ride motorcycles but had to sell my toy to buy a house. Now that I own a house I need a truck. So id figure 2 birds with one stone and get a USEFUL toy.

I wont be doing much heavy hauling or pulling. Id probably never pull anything heavier than 3000lbs.

Is there anything I need to know about these trucks? im assuming they run on premium and only premium but is there anything else.

Im looking to spend about 15K on a used one, preferably silver

you should be able to pick up a decent low mileage 99-00 or maybe 01-02 for around 15-17k. if you go with a 99 be sure to run an Oasis on it to make sure the IC fix has been done. Stock block is good to about 450rwhp.. bla bla bla i dont really want to type the rest of it out. Just do a search here or over on NLOC.net. THere is tons of useful information on these sites.

I used my 01 as a DD for almost 5 years. I enjoyed it everyday, except when I had to fill the gas tank. You'll average about 13 mpg's with these truck.

IC fix is the InterCooler fix. Most, if not all 99s had a leaky intercooler which should have been replaced via TSB under warranty way back when...

The 99-00s ran a 14.4 I believe and the 01 and up ran a 13.9 due to an improved air intake and 3.73 gears over the 3.55's that came on the 99-00.

maybe. I personally have an 00 myself. They are quite a bit cheaper than the 01 and up. Most people put an aftermarket air intake system on their trucks anyway so that take care of that issue. They did change a few other things like different shocks, aluminum driveshaft and clear tailights. I would go with a 99-00 if you want to save a few grand. Still a very fast truck. And the 3.55's are better if you drive on the interstate a lot.

All good advice.....

Being a DD the 3.55's may be the way to roll.

You wouldnt happen to know the be loading limit and the towing specs?

the payload is 800 pounds and the towing capacity is 5,000 pounds. The later L's had a slightly higher payload due to different springs in back.

800lbs is pretty weak sauce for a truck bed......Ill probably never come close to both those numbers, but still
