Cool

I griped at him about the pass word thing and I think he took it off so you can view the album. There are some really great pictures there so try again!

Sixpipes-I know what you mean about the money thing and the Little Woman(notice the capital letters on LW)! When she saw the bill for the SC, I had to be real nice for a while then my torque converter went TU and I told her I wanted to put in an Art Carr race prepped tranny, her eyes just glazed over. It is during this glazed over period that you can sneak in other "must have" items! This period lasted for several days and allowed me to install 4:10 gears, order a BBK 75mm TB, order an 80mm Pro M MAF, clear corner lenses, and another set of those Monster battery cables. Then, when the trance was about to wear off, our Grand Baby came for a visit! Know she doesn't even remember that I have a truck! I hope some of these finely tuned methods help you in getting those 20 inch monsters. I can loan you the Grand Baby for a few days if it will help.

OK - Sorry about the password thing guys, the pictures should be available now.

Flats Man -

Unless you can show up with the grandbaby in the next few weeks, I'll just have to face the music.

Sixpipes-For room and board over the Christmas Holidays I could have him delivered on the week end of your choice! I am sure the Mom and Dad would be willing!

Sixpipes,

The maroon F100 pulled one of the wildest wheelstands off the line. He waved bye-bye to the crowd with his left front wheel as he left the line. Matter-of-fact he almost turned the truck over, it almost flipped over on it's right side. Although some didn't think so the track was hooking very well between the rain and after the track crew got the track dry.

Those that didn't think things went well you must consider this was the World Finals and Muscle Mustangs & Fast Fords was there. This was the last race of the season for point standings and being number one. Since the Mod Motor class is real big and with $7500 pay out everybody was there.

Street Bandits and Outlaws were awesome. Again the track really hooked well.

Oh, by the way the admission for spectators was $30 for both days or $17 for each day.

It was a great cold weekend.

I'm happy for Sixpipes that he set a new PB, and it's an awesome time Dennis.

But...Fun Ford, NOT!!! Cost me $70 to make one qualifying pass in 8 hours on lousy track conditions. From all the spectating I got to do it looked like the track would come, and then go, and then come back. $280 per mile for drag racing is not what I consider fun.

Thumbs up

jarmstro-
The truck's "stand" was nice, but did you see that maroon Mustang (in either the Pro 5.0 or Renegade class...don't remember) stand up on the back bumper? No wheelie bars and a lot of bite almost flipped that thing!

As a "veteran" of FFW events, I can say that anymore (really for the last 4 years) if you're going there to really get to _RACE_ then you'll be disappointed.

The track prep is typically very good for these events (I've been to the one in Houston and Dallas for the last 8 years...but missed this one), but you will NOT get many runs in. 3 time trials maximum if you're running brackets.

You should go to these things to take it all in...not to get tons of runs and practice.

There are well over 700 vehicles that race at these events...heck, the True Street 5.0 Shootout always has over 100 cars at both Houston and Ennis. It all takes a LOT of time.

Throw in the other big 5.0 Shootout classes with _really_ fast cars (read: prone to breakage/oil downs), and you have a long weekend.

That maroon truck is always at these events. Neat truck, IMHO.

What's amazing to me is that the Pro 5.0 class of Mustangs is in the low-7s now. 7.26 was run twice by two different racers. That's insane. And Street Outlaw (10.5" tire required) saw one contestant go 7.9x @ 177mph. That takes some guts to even attempt that with a short-wheelbase (not tube frame) chassis on a 10.5" tire.

Wes -

I agree with your assessment. I really enjoyed the Outlaw and Bandit qualifying. Wheelies everywhere, cars blowing up, plus $4 hot dogs, etc...

Miserable weather made the whole experience much worse than it could have been. Shoot, next year I might even enter the right class.

Well I, as did others on this board, made a run late Saturday afternoon after all the street classes and I can tell you the traction was not wonderful.

Having said that, it is one thing to launch a 3,000 pound vehicle on slicks and quite another to launch a 4,500+ pound vehicle on street tires. Relatively speaking, I agree with Moonshine and Autothrottle. I've seen traction better on Friday nights (test and tune) at Ennis.

Between being trapped in the truck for 3 days, freezing; being left to the mercies of the Pro 5.0, Street Outlaw, and Street Renegade classes that couldn't make a passs down the track w/o wrecking or breaking and casuing an hour or more delay while they picked up the pieces; and $4.00 corn dogs I can't say it was a lot of fun.

There were lots of cool cars and trucks, as has been discussed previously, and I got to meet a lot of very cool people face to face for the first time (includung Jerry Green from SVE, a very nice and knowledgable gent), many of them from here. I did miss seeing some of you there, but it was just too cold for me to move around a whole lot. I am just now getting ambulatory again and can make it to the keyboard for the first time since I got back.

Beastie performed beautifully in the few passes I got to make, setting new best times and really impressing a lot of folks (including Mr. Green). I did have some problems, but nothing too serious. On my last pass, the N2O solenoid stuck open and flooded the intake with gas, killing the motor after I shut it down in the traps. I coasted her off the track and got the bottle turned off, but it was too late to keep it from getting full of gas.

I let her sit for a while, hoping the gas would disapate, but when I turned the key, it backfired slightly throught he supercharger and blew the main vacuum line off. No harm done, but it took a while to trace down all of the lines to find it, in the mean time she idled pretty horribly and ran lean (for the first time in her life).

New best times:

60' 1.754
1/8 mi 7.962
1/4 mi 12.599
trap speed 105.8 mph (into a 25 knot headwind!)

I'll probably do this again, but I will be better prepared, including bringing my own food and drinks and shelter.
