Kaboom!
I had a Mercedes 4.5 do the same thing when an $8 plastic slide rail fragged. Pieces of the slide rail lodged in the timing chain, which then caused the cams to jump teeth. It all happened in an instant.
Sorry to hear about your troubles, Cliff.

Thanks everyone ...
The tensioner on the accessory belt froze up
and that's what started the meltdown. It happened
so fast cause that's the OIL PUMP water pump, alternator
and power steering gone in a heart beat....
Well, I am just gonna wait a bit and then build it meaner.

I didn't know that ...

The only thing that a serpintine belt failuar would do is cause the motor to over heat due to the water pump not turning, Your alternator would not charge the battery and you would have no boost.
So if you were not paying attention to your temp guage and didn't get into boost at all I guess you wouldn't notice that the belt was gone but usually you can tell because the motor tend to rev a little quicker.
I had one go on my Stang and I would just drive untill the temp went up, pull over and wait for it to cool down and drive some more (repeat, repeat, untill I got home).
So, I'm thinking something else caused your problem.

Blew mine last week, and ya know what, I'm looking forward to finally having a block worthy of my truck back in it.
Your Blown Motor Club T-Shirt should be there any day now. Thanks for joining!

That's why I always have an eye on my guages and an ear for detonation.
Dont forget the lack of power steering, but maybe if your hands were not on the steering wheel you wouldnt have noticed that either...
just being a smarta%s, but I think that would be a good warning sign of a thrown belt.
