5.4 internals

Hey all you L guys out there. I was just wondering if the lightning 5.4l is has the same internals that my 2006 f150 has. Obviously it has the stock eaton blower on there but what about the internals....i can't seem to get an answer on this one. The reason I ask is cuz i want to get my 06 f150 HD blown but want to make sure im not gunna blow anything up under the hood

i highly doubt that they are the same...the 06 motor is a entirely different motor

i think its different bud, the crank is usually higher quality, so are the rods and pistons.

Cool

HI!... The "L" 5.4 longblock and the N/A 5.4 longblocks are the same except for the pistons. The Lightning 5.4 has forged 8.4:1 compression pistons. The N/A 5.4 has HYPEREAUTECTIC 9.0:1 pistons. Most of the older 5.4's had a forged steel crank, but FORD started swapping in some cast cranks after "02" here and there. Not sure if the new 5.4's have cast cranks now. Both my "98" and "99" 5.4's both have forged steel cranks. The forged crank is good for 900H.P (flywheel). The only thing that changed on the 3-valve 5.4's is the heads and intake manifold.

Dam Neal you really know your stuff...I was just reading on wikipedia how Ford started strenthening the pistons in 2003 for the L's. In 99 the Ls put out 360 HP and in 01 they tweaked it out so they could produce 380...then after doin this they changed the heads and made more spark plug threads. And like you said they changed cranks in 02. Neal IMO you know more about 5.4 internals than anyone on here...and i was wondering if you think the 2006 5.4 3v heads are as strong as or stronger than the 2003/04 L heads. And if you had to guess, do u think the 06 5.4 3v have forged cranks or cast cranks??????

HI!... Well the new 3-valve heads will outflow the P.I heads no problem. I have a few buddies that work at the FORD engine plant here in WINDSOR where your engine was built. I'll ask them if FORD is using a forged steel crank in the new 5.4's or cast. I bet it's still a forged steel crank IMO.
