Do any dealerships WANT to sell '00 L's??? (long)
Well, I have now been insulted at two different dealerships while trying to buy an '00 L. The first one had their little "Market Adjustment" that amounted to $5000 over MSRP and wanted to act like they were doing me a huge favor by selling me the truck for MSRP plus TTL. I told them I'd pay $28,500 out the door and he told me I was being unreasonable and he would not even show that offer to the sales manager because it was so ridiculous. He said that they had more than that IN the truck. I said, "well, that's not the truth and we both know it. So if you are going to sit here and lie and call me ridiculous, we are wasting each others' time!" and I left. He left me a voice mail the next day begging me to come back and promising to do better but I can't see myself going back there.
SO... I went to the place that had 4 L's on the showroom floor. This time, I took my Corvette to see about trade-in. I was thinking that if I could buy the truck for $29,000 OTD and get $35,000 out of my car (which is a few hundred dollars above black book wholesale for "average" and mine is immaculate), we could deal. They'd make good money two ways and I'd be happy. So they go look at my car, come back in and say "Here we go... you write us a check for $109 and the truck is yours!" I swear I just about fell out of chair and choked on my gum at the same time. They had $30K for the truck and basically allowing $29,900 for my car. I have never jumped up from a desk so fast. He starts chasing me down like "what?!? WHAT!?!? That's a GOOD OFFER!!!!!"... I told him we were too far off to even think about discussing it further and left. I couldn't even believe he had the NERVE to bring that offer to me! I've talked to a friend of mine who is a sales managers (of another brand) who looked at my car and said that if they really wanted to sell me that truck, my offer was far from unreasonable.
So, I don't know what I'm going to do... I'm highly frustrated and extremely disappointed. I guess I will just make a bigger effort to sell my car and order an '01 soon. But it sure as hell won't be from any of the jerks around here! Anyone know of any decent dealerships in Atlanta??
Sorry so long, just had to vent.
By the way, the first dealership was Adamson Ford and the second was Jim Skinner Ford in Birmingham, AL.
Am I crazy or do these people take one look at a 22 yr old with a C5 and think I have more money than brains??
ARRGH!!

Keep trying, There are lots of posts here about cheap 2000's. I would recommend separating the transactions. Work the best deal you can on the truck then if you dont want to sell the Corvette yourself at the end bring the Corvette into the picture.
Dont forget you can buy from a distant dealer and have the truck shipped from almost anywhere for $200.00. Even if you dont want to do that knowing it can help in negotiations.
Good Luck

Kristi,
to answer your last question...YES they do!Had the same thing happen to me about 3 years ago when i was looking at a brand new Eclipse GST.They were looking at me and said you know this car is 24k...I said "SO?"Unfortunately they take one look at you and judge. The dealership across the street lost its Saleen dealership satus because of one of those incidents.A young "KID" walked in and wanted to see a saleen mustang.Dealer didnt want to show him cause they was no WAY he could make that kind of money.Just so happens that the "KID" worked for Saleen.OOOOPS!

Check with Woody Anderson Ford in Huntsville.
They had 2 '00 L's a month ago and a used white 99 L.
http://www.woodyandersonford.com
They sold their 2000 Cobra R for 5,000 over MSRP to a guy in Birmingham. Many dealers were getting 10,000 and 15,000 over MSRP for one of the 300 Cobra R's produced.

If they keep that attitude, they will still be sitting on those trucks when the first '01s come in.
I finally got mine, and I paid 29,836 OTD, and got 20,500 on trade for my 98 Cobra. I felt like I really got a good deal. But then, I had to talk to like 4 dealerships before I found one willing to deal at all.
Check out this link, its an excellent read: http://www.edmunds.com/edweb/advice/
Good luck!

Just a couple of things I will add. Keep trying. I had to jump through some major hoops to get a good deal, but I think it was worth it.
If possible, do the deal on the L and the trade in as seperate transactions. You would get more for the C5 buy selling it yourself, if that is an option.
If you buy from a distant dealer, it will probably cost a lot more than $200 to have the truck shipped to you. I am paying around $700. Still ok with me, since I payed about $4100 less than MSRP. Oh, and I still don't have my truck. I guess after waiting 2 years, 2 weeks shouldn't be a big deal, right? Well, let me just say that the anticipation is nearly killing me. I'll be ok though, and hopefully I will have it by this weekend.

Kristi, it is a sign from God. He doesn't want you to sell the C5.
Here's what the Ford dealer down the street has in stock: Black or White
Too bad it's way out here in West Texas, but these two trucks have been sitting on the lot for months, they *might* be ready to deal. There's not much demand for trucks like that around here. Later,
Neil
p.s. I'll give ya $29,900.01 for the car.

If you can do A-Plan or simular, there is a dealer in here in lower Michigan that has a black one, and also has a H-D truck that they will A-Plan. If interested, let me know and I'll send you his name and number.
Maybe its just me..but..I think your dreaming to think that you can trade-in a car(any car) on a new vehicle and think that the dealer WILL GIVE YOU MONEY BACK. I had to pay list when I bought my Lightning in June 99. Just my .02 worth

Why don't you try one of the Internet based car buying services like http://www.stoneage.com/ or http://www.carscost.com ?
Thanks so much for the suggestions and the... err... constructive criticism. I took today off from looking, but I'll start making some calls tomorrow. I was just too frustrated to mess with it today. Thanks again and rest assured, I'll keep you updated
