clonetek,
I think the filter looks great. For worse case of $90.00 you have filter and Ram Air all in one.

High Risk's problem was that the headlight ram air dumped right into the side of the filter, causing air turbulence in the filter.
I don't think the amount of air was the issue.

OK
I have been using that setup since the GP with Autophysics. I got that one instead of the BigMouth because of size non-availability. The hose fits real tight through the hole and gets somewhat pinched by the fender bracket if you don't make any cuts to the inner fender. I used a scoop on the end of it and mounted it out of frontal view. It seemed to work pretty good, but you still have the "ribbed" hose that causes some turbulance in air flow. It would be better to go with a steel tubing as far as possible from top to bottom, such as Johnny Lightning's setup.

I was at Autophysics (Darryl Lum) house last night. His computer is broken and said he is very sorry that he cannot return any ones e-mail or fill any orders untill his computer is fixed. We tried a 9 inch, 10 inch and 12 inch S&B Big Mouth Filter on my Lightning with the Airraid box all 3 sizes fit real good. I tried the K&N filter that came with the Airraid and I feel so much more power from the S&B's filter. It is a must!

Hey Jim, Sounds like you had a blast on the cruise this past weekend!
If I make some extra $$$ this year on Football I really would like to ship my L to LA. and cruise with you! How's that sound??? Back to the subject as I recall there was around
1 inch 1 1/2 space to the hole on the drivers side fender. Plenty of space. Are you thinking of getting a 12 inch filter? I'm using the 10 inch Big Mouth Filter because I really liked the Purple anodized spacer and the cool purple hose! Does it really make a huge difference when you remove the front panel of the airraid box? Does the filter have more sound affects? Maybe this weekend I'll try and take off the front panel of the airraid.
Take Care Lightning Brother,

DJY,
Not to interupt your brotherly posting but..
Take both panels off!!! I did before I decided to go with JL's Ram Air. Same filter (12") with plumbing.
Performance gain, Yep
Sound effects, ABSOLUTELY.

Clonetek,
all you have to cut is a 3" x 5" elipse out of the driver's side fender liner. that's it.
I will install mine this weekend and take photos. Need to set up Zing too.
The weather forecast predicts high temps in the 40's with a chance of snow so the pics will be more of function than form.
If snow stays away, the Red Rocket will come alive again with a big gulp of JL Ram Air.

You don't need to remove a fog light to get the ram air. My idea is to use the area in the bottom grill that is currently closed off. On each side of the bottom grill, there is a section that is closed off. All you would have to do is grind off the blank section from behind, leaving the honeycomb grill intact. Haven't looked in detail, but it would be simple to make a fiberglass inlet that could attach to a hose/tubing. It would be inconspicuous and has the grill for protection. The opening could also be used to provide cool air to the front brakes.
