Black Exhaust

Hey got a 03 Lignting no mods done to it just flowmaster exhaust. But my tips are always dirty, black and pretty much just nasty. Any thoughts on why that would be. Just seems like there is to much too me.

Any Lightning Tuners in Columbia, SC

stock trucks run rich, it'll blacken the exhaust quickly.

BlowBY...... Not a good sign. My tips on my 01 are black becuase there is some slight blowby. My 04 tips stay clean all the time. Not even a hint of black.

It's not Blowby, most stock trucks when brand new have this issue. a clean tip is a lean truck.

04's have the leanest program of any of the years...earlier you go, the richer it gets. My '00 was fat as a pig on the dyno hanging around 10 AF at 4000rpm+.

Well said Pawn and there is plenty of SAFE POWER to be had with a nice fat AF.

Example here's my old 02, (stock block, stock everything, lots of boost and a little juice) Remember tuning was diff back then, it wasnt about flat lining the AF. Mine was in the 9's for some of the Dyno and I do believe thats the way Johnny kept me safe for all those years spraying the stock block into the 11's.
(I ran it for 3 years before checking the tune on a Dyno, this was Grand Opening Day at Sals when we threw it on the Dyno for the 1st time)

"Normal" for most Ls. My 01 L has always had carboned-up tips and that was with a dyno sheet showing a 12/1 A/F .

I think part(maybe most?) comes from burning the extra oil found in our intakes.

They all run rich at WOT, and that's a good thing. Get over it! And just clean your tips and worry about more important things.
