More InFo

Hello eveyone I'm fairly new to the lightning world and keep reading about the begining mods such as pulleies, fliters, and chips. But could someone go a little more in depth on these items. I like to know why and how things work and for what reasons.

Three basic things.....

The cool air intake kit will allow lots of nice, clean, cool air to be taken in when you jump on the gas. The other mods will work better if more air is available.....

The pulley will spin the blower faster creating more boost, thus creating more horse power and torque. The increased boost will require more air which is why you need the CAI.

The tune (chip) will create more horse power and keep the truck running healthy. It changes the amount of fuel to match the increase in fresh air you will be getting. It also will change the timing just a little, the main objective is the optimized air/fuel and timing so that you may maximize HP. The tune will also change the tranny, making it more performance friendly. Things like shift points, converter performance, shift firmness and torque reduction can all be changed to fit your use....

On a side note, any time you change something on the truck you should check to see if the tune needs to be adjusted. A blown motor has a delicate air / fuel curve. It doesnt take much to upset that and it will be a big mistake to lean this motor out.

That is really basic information. You need to get in contact with a good lightning tuner and ask questions. They can point you in the right direction on what mods will work the best and why they work. I suggest the SITE SPONSORS in the right hand corner of this website. certainly JLP, JDM and PSP will help you. SAL from PSP will go over things in detail with you, email him. He visits here more than any other vendor with answers to all kinds of members questions.

Good luck with your search and mods...
