C Notch

Anybody have a c notch on their L and have pics of install or just pics in general of a c notch on an L? What brand if yes?

I am going to be putting a 5/7 drop on my 04. The kit is from western chassis, and it requires a serious c-notch. The custom auto shop that is doing it makes there own c-notch kits. They said that it is much easier to do if you take the bed off. I have no room in my garage to do that. They are doing the entire install for 500$$$... I cant beat that.

The main thing to look at when buying a c notch or making one is to spread the load out over a large area.by that I mean space the bolts out atleast 6x their dia.the farther away from each other the better.But also need to have atleast 4 to 6 on each side of the notch.the material also needs to be 1.5x the thickness of what it is replacing in both width and thickness.in this area thicker is def better.And if poss needs to be designed so that it will have the ablity to resist sideways movement as well as up and downward forces.Stan

there is barely anything technical on this site. I searched for many things and people just talk crap on every thread that people ask for write-ups and pictures. Its just the same thing over and over.

I don't know what you mean by "technical," but if it has anything to do with things like the topic at hand, you are incorrect. While I agree that there should be more tech and less chatter, and that many of the members here talk out of the wrong hole and write like they dropped out of school in the second grade, there is a wealth of information here if you bother to look for it.

If you take the time to do a good search, you can hit the nail on the head in a few minutes 95% of the time. In fact, I suggested the above searches not out of a general "search police" mentality, but rather because I have searched on this very topic myself and found the results to be more than satisfactory.

I've been on these boards for over four years, kemosabe. There ain't much that has not been discussed at length.

I second that, everything I have done to my truck has been researched and completed successfully from info from this site.

I totally i agree with you. I should have made my statement a little more clear. Sorry, i am very new to this forum.

The one thing that the anti-searchers point to is information growing stale. The only thing that I have to add to the existing body of knowledge is that Belltech has a nice looking Gen 2 c-notch pictured in their recent ads (Ford Performance Truck).

But no one seems to have a listing for a 97-03 notch. And when I called BT to get a part #, Sport Truck Direct told me that the number that I was given was for an 04^ kit. I haven't taken the time to follow up since then.

But if I were notching (which I may be in the future), that's the one that I would use. Way more expensive than the other options, but I like the dual-sided construction.

Tim,

Belltech's c-section looks very good, I still kinda like Ruslow's kit for the sheer beef of it.....that farther you spread the load before and after the notch the better. Belltechs looks like a easier install since there seems to be no welding required, but that in itself makes me a bit nervous.
