The gear ratios for all 4R100s and E4ODs was the same, from 1989 until the last ones. There are 4 different models that came in Lightnings (and Harleys, in the years they built the S/C 5.4 in Harley's they had L trannies) and there are some differences in them, but they are all interchangeable. You CANNOT put a regular gas model 4R100 tranny in an L and expect it to live long, no other gas model had 6 gear steel planets etc.. and all 5.4L gas models had 4 bolt converters, the L has the 6.8L converter which is 6 bolt. You want to avoid early 2001 models (tag code 1J) which had the mechanical diode in them, otherwise the difference between models isn't much to worry about. In 1999 the model code was 1F, in 2000 it was 1S, early 2001 was 1J and late 2001 through 2004 was 5X. The model matrix lists a 1Q model for 2001, but only 12 of them were built and none left the transmission plant.

Hope this helps,

G

The final drive ratio is defferent because the rear end changed, but the tranny was the same, the OD clutch and planets are the same on all 4R100s from 1998 up. Even them the change was not a change in ratio, but in the design of the OD one way clutch, and the 7G487 drum.

I can even scan the factory build sheets if you want, but the OD never changed ratios.

OK, I'll buy that. I could have sworn the build sheet listed a different OD for the 99-00, but I'll admit when I'm wrong.
