Build up - Advice?

well in a nutshell, im building a 5.4 to swap my tired 4.6 in my 97. looking at a 02 5.4 out of a f250, gonna send the heads to fox lake, with comp cams.

i found a oem SC, intercooler and hopefully this guy will fall thru and give me his intake manifold as well like he said he would. i believe it was off a HD but w/e

any basic guidelines for specs on the L's build i need to follow?
Compression ratio?
255 LPH fuel pump 1? 2?
42# injectors?
relocate alternator? where to?
do i need the 90mm maf? will the maf i have from the 4.6 handle it with a custom tune?

is there anything else im missing?

daily driver.

You are going to want a compression ratio of anywhere from 8.5:1 to 9.XX:1 with a s/c. Go with (2) 255 lph pumps & are you having forged internals put into it?
-what about heat exchanger? lower pulley, 90mm or SCT 2400 MAF, 42# injectors will be fine. Why not go with a Whipple/KB s/c matched w/ forged internals and an upgraded tranny. Tune?

i have found manley or mahle (cant remember which one. was lookin for both) with a CR of 9.2:1, sounds like its a decent to what your talking about.

Eagle 3-d H beam rods, everything else down low will be OEM basically.

all i have at this point is the OEM intercooler that sits in the intake manifold. i have no pulleys. at all.

my reason for not going for that setup you mentioned is $$$ im a bit on the budgeted side here, i am 19. oh and this is going into a lifted 4x4 too. i just thought a stout built motor with a lil bit of lightning in its blood would be all kinds of fun.

are there tried and true forged pistons i can eyeball?

manley & eagle forged are good. (check teamjdm.com or JLP or PSP websites for other brand ideas) I know i've seen at least one other guy on here who did the lightning motor in the ford 4x4 successfully, so a search may turn up some things.....it can be done!! Great idea on the forged internals....my buddy's Lightning blew out the rods through the side of the block racing a 'Vette, so if you're planning on it seeing any tough duty go forged!!

cool, was hoping i wasnt the only loonie guy here with that wild hair.

as of now all my internals are forged. still trying to figure out where JDM is getting off selling their kit for $1795 when i priced it out on some other site (same price for the rods, pistons n such) and come up with $1382. thats like $400 difference? i can add in the arp head studs and still come up with a lower price. unless im missing bearings.

btw, Federal Mogul still a good bearing?

Go with Eagle rods and Mahle pistons, proven to 1000hp....

9.5 is on the high end but if you keep boost roughly under 12 lbs you should be ok.

Key here is the tune and where you set the timing.... More compression = better chance of detonation. More timing = more chance.

So make sure you got the timing low enough and using high enough octane!

so your telling me SC with 9.5:1 pistons, and comp cams may pose a detonation problem. this is most likely goin to be completely stock supercharger, unless i find something for a good deal.

was hoping to run plus.

Cool

HI!... I went with the MAHLE forged pistons on my built 5.4. They are -16cc and gave me 8.42:1 compression. But remember that went you have ported heads like my FOXLAKE STAGE II's that they remove material from the combustion chamber which makes it larger which in turn will lower the final compression ratio.

yep, Im running the same pistons in my new engine. So ill have that same compression. I went with the "race" main and rod bearings.
