Post FREE OIL CHANGE??????????

Got my December 2000 issue of TRUCKIN' Magazine. They now have a 1999 White Lightning that they are going to enhance for performance. The Executive Editor Dan Sanchez had a brief article in the editorial section explaining their plans for the L and also requested some Lightning clubs participation for a "day at the races". The magazine did some initial testing at the Los Angeles County Raceway so I assume that "the day at the races" would be at that track. Contact Dan at dans@mcmullenargus.com if you are interested.

In the TECH section of the magazine they had a project update on their L. They took it to the track and ran a 14.30 bone stock. They have also installed a spray-on Permatech bedliner.

In discussing a problem with the overdrive button they stated:

A quick trip to the dealer, though, and it was repaired under warranty. Our factory waranty also allows us free oil changes; this was was a nice added bonus that Ford allows Lightning owners to take advantage of.
This is news to me. Can anyone shed any light on this or is Ford blowing smoke at TRUCKIN' magazine?

The only way that I know of getting an oil change from a dealership or Ford FREE if the Ford owner had already purchased a maintenance plan from the Finance Department when purchasing the new vehicle. Or possible the dealership has adveritsed a free change to build business.

I have seen many a person purchase a maintenance plan and did not even know it, specially if it was a leased vehicle.

I got two free oil changes at my dealership. One when they changed the intercooler and another one about one hour later when I found out they didn't put Mobil 1 in it. They had to order the Mobil 1 from the local autoparts store.

Noel

Trust me. It wasn't free. They billed Ford for it.

The FREE Oil change comes with the extended warranty. You should have been sent a notice from Ford after buying the extended warranty. Mine came about 2 weeks later after purchasing my Lightning with the extended warranty in May of 1999.

A FREE oil change does not come with an extended warranty. It is a stand alone option call the Maintenance Plan. If you have it along with the warranty you paid for the warranty and you ALSO paid for the oil changes.

As a previous Finance Manager for a Ford dealership, I know. I also know there is good profit for the store for selling the Maintenance Plan.

I have seen Maintenance Plans sold for $400, $500 and even $1,000 for a two year oil change plan and a lot of buyers didn't know that they had purchased a plan.

Cool

O.K. New to the board, my2$
I have the "oil change" thing. I purchased the maintenance pkg 40k miles, extreme duty plan Quality Care Ford, oil change every 3k. It was a very good deal. I dont pay for oil changes, the maint. pkg is paid through my vin # I PAID FOR THE PKG, it was added to the total cost of my L.

Just thought I would add my .02. I got my first oil change free. I think this was more of a dealer perk (bought 6 vehicles from them!) then a standard Ford thing. I have only the factory warranty on the machine so no maintenance or extended warranty came into play here.

I buy my oil from R&S Auto. 79 cents per quart with rebate(Exxon 5-30). Mototcraft FL-820S oil filters are 2 for 5 bucks on sale. So that works out to approx. 7 dollars, doing it myself. Don't know too many "oil change experts" that will take the time to fill the oil filter before they install it. Also get to give the undercarrige the once over, while I'am under it. Knowing that the person changing the oil could give a ratsa$$ about my truck. So seven dollars for an oil change is like free to me.

FORDSALES:
I also have been a Finance Manager, Sales Manager, Business Manager, and Master Salesman for Ford. This Free Oil Change was part of my 6 year 100,000 warranty that I only paid $875.00 for. The notice for it came in the mail and informed me that it was a part of my Extended Warranty which I was told about by the Finance Manager who sold it to me, (A close personal friend, Sunday School Member and fellow Lightning Owner). Since I paid cash for the warranty I assume it didn't cost me anything, part of the Extended Service Policy from Ford and SVT? Could be wrong but not out of my pocket. 6 year 100,000 mile warranty at dealer cost, free maintenance plan.... OK by me..

You mentioned that you paid $875 for a 6 year 100,000 mile warranty with a maintenance plan.

What type of warranty did you get??

Back then a dealership's cost for the Ford warranty for the L for 6 years, 100,000 miles with a $100.00 deduct was:

Premium Care $1,150.00
Extra Care $950.00
Base Care $695.00
Power Train $610.00

add to the above price the dealership cost of a 2 year 26,000 mile maintenance plan $195.00

Since you paid $875.00, either the dealership goofed or you have either the Base Plan or the Power Train which is really useless for the type of vehicle that we have.

Maybe you don't have a Ford Warranty but an aftermarket. You might take a look to see what you have.

If you do have a Ford Warranty with a 2 year maintenanve plan and you have a 6 year, 100,000 Premimu Care with a $100.00 deductable, then the dealership lost $470.00 to sell you the plan. That I find unlikely.
