My my, a bit bitter are we?

I'm still trying to figure out how you can get mad at some engine parts breaking when you're pushing the engine harder without knowing wether or not all the components can handle it.

Hmmm,

A new set of upgraded valves and a set of decent, "non-sorry ***", non-platinum plugs and you'd be set.

Hell, since you have the heads off, PORT them bad boys....

What's the deal?.....

I am not pushing it no harder than anyone else. Upon removal of the heads we noticed that they were not tight and noticed the head gasket had allready starting giving way between two cylinders. Trust me this is no real strong motor. There are plenty of others that are doing way more than what I did and if a chip, mass air and 2 extra lbs from a pulley are too much for this "well built with good parts" then I am speechless.

Bitter..... Hell yes I am for 33,000 for a single cab, 2 wheel drive pickup that is supposed to be the fastest and best thing SVT has to offer. The first gen Lightning that my father has is 100% awesome and completely indesructable as far as I am concerned.

And others have had problems too... Like High Risk and his blower teflon peeling, Sal having a spark plug go on him, etc.

You paid $33,000 for the fastest production truck and you got just that, the fastest production truck. It is the fastest SVT truck, and it is the fastest production truck off line assembly line, and it is considered amongst the top 20 fastest production vehicles. The motor is supposed to be tuned near its peak coming out the door...with that knoweldge, it shouldn't be a too far gone conclusion that if you start pumping it up more, its internals can't take it.

Just about all the chips bring the trucks as close to lean as you can go without detonation. Did yours ping at any level? Did you run it with an A/F gauge?

You have a realized risk when you mod your truck...otherwise it wouldn't void your warranty to do it. Other times, sh*t happens and you just have to work from there, like my Dodge going through 2 drive-shafts even though we hauled stuff that was within its "towning capacity".

Crush, I know precisely how you feel. I have owned performance vehicles all my life, and I have never had one sitting at the dealership for 13 days and counting (needs at least a new intercooler). If a non pinging Superchip and airbox are too much for this precisely tuned truck, then I would question the strength of the engine. I have hot rodded out other stuff to the max, and never spent a day at a dealership. I hope this is not a pattern. I love this truck more than any vehicle I have ever owned, but with 13K miles on it, I don't expect to lose it for two weeks because of some kind of *****ty design of a component. If I have any other problem with it, I will be awaiting the new M3 beamer.

Thanks Skydive for your understanding of where I am coming from and just think of in your case your dealer decided not to warranty because of some mods then tell me how you would really feel. It seems you cannot blame Ford, Chip Manufacturer or other Mod Manufacturer because they are not going to warranty anything other than their part so you tell me if you are not going to get upset when you come to the problems I have had to face with mine. Yes I have enjoyed my truck...(While it lasted) but I do not feel it is very wise to pay for something and have warranty denied and have to work on it myself nor is it economical when it is your daily driver. This is why I am upset and this is why I will be getting rid of it asap. Funny thing is that Ford said they would warranty it again once it was fixed...Kinda ****ty huh!!!

Yea that sucks.......so do you think that the friggin platinum plugs where the root cause of your problem? I can SURELY understand where your bitterness comes from. I believe I will be changing plugs ASAP.

I didn't know that they weren't fixing your truck under warranty Crush. That does suck.

Good luck on whatever you end up getting. Any ideas where you're heading?

Crush, how would they validate your repair to re-warranty it? Is there something stopping you from getting a receipt generated and then bringing the truck in broken again?

Post 4 sale and what exactly happened

Just got the motor apart and discovered that there was no hole in the piston. There was a hole in the exhaust valve. Obviously from Sorry *** spark plugs. The spark plugs actually looked like the ground strap is hollow. Oh wel I guess FORD QUALITY job NONE. Very cheap valves. Motor will be back together in a couple of days and off to the dealer for trade in or to be sold outright.
Another note my father is selling his 2000 L as well. His is red with only 1400 miles. Pro-M, Swanson Chip and Stupidcharger pulley and Black hard tonneu.

Any takers call 512 633-4132 or 512 921-8070
Both very clean

Seems we have been suckered into buying a 2nd gen L thinking of the quality of a 1st gen L.

I like your idea (Thepawn) but I have not the patience for that and plus my truck is allready apart. I will have a new valve put in and a complete valve job plus a little taken off the heads. I cannot believe so much was so loose upon removal of everything. I am going to re-ring it and bearing it as well. A new Intercooler is also being put in. I have a mass air for sale but I am keeping the chip, airaid for now until I get rid of it. I also have a few gauges and pods for sale.
Air fuel gauge(Autometer)
Fuel Pressure(Autometer)Electric
NOS Pressure(Autometer)
All brand new and never installed
Anyhow I guess we will see what happens when it gets back on the road and hopefuly it does not have a mishap before I can part from it.

Crush,

I may be interested in a couple of your gauges and the Mass Air meter.
