'01s on the way
We ran the first batch of Lightning transmissions today, I don't know whether they were for inventory, engineering tests or if OTP is getting ready to build some , but the transmissions are built for the first batch.

Do you know what the difference is, if any, from the trannys in the 99-00?

So many questions...
A "run" of transmissions is ussually 100 - 300. sometimes the deisel models will run 500, The Lightnings are ussually 50 - 200, more often on the low end, like 100. Some PTO models we run in batches of 18 or 24 (six fit on a rack, so runs are ussually divisible by 6)
Fotr the '01 models the big difference is the mechanical diode, which we had a bit of trouble with but that's fixed now, and it's a more reliable part. I hear it makes more crisp 1-2 shifts, but I couldn't tell you, never drove one. Get this, the test protocall for one calls for ruinning it to 6000 rpm WOT in 4th gear, and attempting a downshift to 1st, pulling about 450 flywheel torque, so I don't wanna hear how you think it's the weeak link in the drivetrain. I always said that the worst your transmission gets treated is on the test stands.
A batch is run pretty close to when a truck is built, it's not unsual to get a rack back with tags left on it from the previous shipping day, generally, for Kentuckty Truck a transmission built on 1st shift is in a truck by the end of the day, within 8-10 hoursa of being built. Ontario is prolly a little slower than that, farther away and customs etc....My trans has a build date of 3/22 my truck has a build date of 3/13, so I can't tell you. Yes, the truck was built before the transmssion. Only way I can explain that is the "buck date" is before when it comes down the line, or possibly it went into a repair bay for a new tranny.
Converter lockup occurs in all 4 gears at WOT, provided the temp of the fluid is over 90o, something has been doen the the converters this year, but I don't have a clue, I consider Torque Converters a form of VooDoo, but the conmverters are not back-compatible, ie: you can put a '01 converter in a '00 transmission, but a '00 won't owrk in a '01. The converters in a Lightning are the converters that go in all 6.8L v-10 engines with a 4R100, I think the stall speed is 1700 RPM but I'm not sure about that. Lock up is controlled by servo, activated by the computer. At WOT it'll lock in any gear, and stays loked up all the way thru the shift pattern.
