Torque converter lockup

Hello, I've got a 00 lightning here. Under light acceleration my torque converter seems to lockup at about 35 mp/h. Is this what others are expiriencing? How hard is it to disconnect the lockup feature on these trucks? thanks

Lockup should normally occur at 40-42mph, it can be changed in your tune if you have a handheld tuner or a chip. Mine is set to lockup around 46mph so it doesnt bother me too much when on public streets or in light traffic.

I'm having the same problem and it was something that just came about. It never used to do it. I am working with a local tuner trying to fix it. Going to try to change the tune this saturday and see if that helps. Like the other guy said it normally locks at 40-42 and the 31-32mph lockup is annoying as hell in city traffic..

I don't really want to disconect my lockup, I just thought it might be why my gas mileage is so bad. I have a Predator tuner, how to you change the lockup point with this tuner?

Tranny Tuning is reason enough for any L to have a chip, and if you work with your tuner there is so so much you can do to improve it and have it adjusted to suit your personal taste.

I've worked with all 3 of the Big Tuners here and each of them worked with me on Tranny Settings. In my case I dont EVER want to see my converter lock up until well into 3rd gear, 50 is @ where I like it, then I usually set OD to NOT kick in to @ 55MPH. Sal knows exactly how I like it and Ed seems to have the identical taste as me, sometimes I wonder if it's going to shift at all it holds a gear so long (at mild to mid throttle), hehehehe just the way I like it

Mines truly like driving a standard without the hassles of shifting.
You can have ANY gear shift at a desired RPM or MPH, you can have any gear NOT downshift until a certain RPM or MPH, you can have OD not go on to a certain RPM or MPH, you can hold a gear to a desired point, you can have od come off at a certain RPM or MPH, and we didnt even get into Torque Reduction, Shift Points, and many other Trans settings.....

And before you ask my stock tranny lasted 5 years and was PERFECT when I sold Blacky (and thats spraying the chit out of it with 5700-6000 shift points)
This stock trans has @50K on it and runs like the day it was born, most of the tweaks I speak about actually HELP a tranny last longer

GOOD LUCK and fear not you can make it do anything you want
