Looked at a beat-up '93 L the other day. The salesman told me that the 1st gens have a seven-speed automatic. Is this true?!? I've heard of this kinda deal but only thought it was the torque converter...or something. What's the deal? Also, what were the stock tires for a 1st gen? Were they the same F-1's as on the 2nd gens? Anyway, he wanted $8,000 for this truck. It had 140,000 long, tough miles on it. Fiance told me no L until I graduate. Hopefully a job with big $$$$ is on the way. Looking at getting a M-5 for her, someday. So, can anyone answer my questions?

As far as buying it how good is the body and interior? The drivetrain can be rebuilt. I assume it's not in good shape because a good first gen will bring about $12-14k.

Well, the inside wasn't bad. The bucket seats had been taken out. I looked at them. They weren't bad either, but one had a side panel ripped on it. You can tell this truck lived on a dirt road. Paint chipped everywhere. Also, when it was started, it almost died three or four times, letting out loud backfires. Would be a nice project if I had the time, money, and knowledge. But with me only being 19, I think I should maybe wait. I'm wanting to get a 2000, if there's any still left in May or June. I like the 2001's hp, but don't like the cosmetic changes.

 

That thing sounds like a real project vehicle. Too bad they want so much for it. The '01's pick up more HP because the intercooler that is a fix for the ones we have is more efficient...or at least that's what I've read. Also heard there may be yellow in the '01's to choose from...may be time for another trade-in for me .
