Question ? about heads

I have a stupid ? for everybody. I am not very knowledgable about motors so bare with me here. This is how I learn by asking these guestions.

Why is the Navigator pulling 300hp N/A with the same 5.4. Is it because it uses 4 valve/cylinder? Why can't we swap heads and then change the cam to a better one. Please post insight. This would seem like an easy Mod.

Thanks
Dave.

That is correct, we have 2 valve cylinder heads. Its the same story with the Mustang GT and the Cobra. The GT has 2 valve cylinder heads, and the Cobra 4.

Think of your engine as an ai pump. The better it breathes the more power it makes. Using the Navigator heads would help a lot, but then the intercooler and supercharger wouldn't fit. Some say that 02 or 03 Lightnings will get a 3 valve cylinder head. That will make for monstrous power.

See what I mean?

I think BAbolt or BADbolt had aftermarket heads and were planning on installing them. HIGH RISK I am sure has atleast looked into it. Anyone else?

Dave the swap wouldn't be very easy, they are totally different setups. You would need a newly designed supercharger, among many other parts. Ford should've started with the 4V engine for the lightning (maybe 2003?) Our valves are tiny, but the supercharger narrows the gap between the 2V heads & the 4V heads. The improvement wouldn't be as great as you would think. Wait till Ford unleashes the beast! then trade it's trade-in time! keep the mods coming though. Lloyd

Okay the Nav was just an example. Cobra R heads would be even better. There has to be some better heads out there that fit our set up. Anyone look in to this? BAbolt, BADbolt, HIGHRISK??????

I have info from a very reliable person that has tried the 32v with a custom lower intake. The motor held 8-10 psi below 3000 rpm but above 3000 it dropped off to 4 psi. This was due to the bigger flow heads and the Eaton not being able to push enough air. Perhaps a centrifical blower could keep up.
I have installed a set of ported heads but due to other issues I have not been able to get any real good performance data yet. Hopefully within the next week.

A few years back if i remember correctly there was a gentleman (Joe Amato?)that built a 4.6 dohc F150 very similar to the current L2. I was impressed with the 600 hp figures.
