Post blue-grey smoke

A friend of mine noticed this morning that there was a "puff" of blue-grey smoke that came out of the exhaust, I said it was condensation but he said no, it wasn't just condensation.

Is this from the intercooler leaking into the exhaust or even more serious?

Thanks,
Mike

It is part of Clinton's opening of the strategic oil reserve. Sounds like oil getting into the combustion chamber and going out the tail pipe.

Redlite,

Lightning was sitting in a garage for over 2 weeks. I checked my oil level and it is still full. Still wondering what is going on though.

I wonder if it is similiar to what happens to some Chevy motors. The design of the valve guide seals allows the oil to seep by the seal when the vehicle is not driven for awile.

"It could happen"!!

Brimstone, I have had that happen to me five or six times in the last year or so. I usually got it after the truck had been setting for several days without starting it in cool or cold weather. I got a big cloud of blue-gray, oily smelling smoke. Spoke to Lightning tech at dealer and he did not think it was a problem unless the truck started using oil. So, keep an eye on the dipstick.

I have not had the smoke event in months. I got a 99 with about 9200 miles on it.

Was this at WOT? When I hit WOT, I get a puff of dark smoke from the exhaust. I've heard that that is no big deal.

FYI,
I get the "cloud" from time to time too. My oil level is "A ok",so I don't think that's where the problem(if there is one) lies.
I've had the phenomenom for about a yr and no problems. Does seem more promonent when it's been idle for awhile, especially when the temperature outside begind to drop.
Hmmm, I wonder what's really up?

DUCK01, I got the smoke only at start-up after three or four days or more of not running the truck. Also, I was not running the truck hard prior to shut-down. I have not seen the smoke for six months or more and 5000 plus miles, so maybe it has something to do with engine break-in. And, it was one big puff of smoke then it stopped each time. The smoke, that is, not the truck. Definitely had an oil odor and not a gasoline odor.
