Post Tail Light cover opinion w/pics

I'm having my new ram air hood painted next week so I thought I'd have them shoot my as yet uninstalled tail light covers at the same time. A friend said I shouldn't, they look good black. I thought they looked a bit too much like a brush guard in black on a silver truck. What do y'all think?

Thats a tough one to call. I think theyd look good either way. The silver looks good on the truck, but it makes the black plastic on the bumper stand out. But the black covers stand out on the truck, and mae the bumpers look like they belong there.

I'd go with the silver.

Mark_2kL....

I wish I had some pics to post of my L....it's a white 2000, I've got the same tail light covers, except I painted mine gloss black. They look AWESOME....I had considered painting them white....but I wanted to have something that stands out a bit, Tundra is definately right about it making the plastic on the bumper and steps stand out. I should be getting my hood today, and hopefully have it painted and on the truck within a day or two...Which ram-air hood did you go with?? I went with the AAD F-1 type hood, I'll definately take some pics of it....and hopefully with some help get them posted for all to see....

It's easy to get caught up in the novelty of stuff, and forget about balanced styling. I would go with the black, or nothing at all. Painting them silver scales the size of the taillight down so small that it destroys the attractive look of the rear of the truck. The designers of the flare side got it "just right", and screwing around with the percieved size and shape of the tailights like that ruins the balance and the good looks just for the sake of being different. Makes the truck look fatter in the tush. You know, just because it's different, doesn't mean it's more attractive. The flat black looks kind of cool though, very "Saleenish". And you retain the same footprint for the taillight, which keeps your balance in check.

For pure style, the silver looks better. For color balance, the black looks better.
Tough call, but it ultimately is your choice.

My F1 hood is arriving today also. Going to have it painted along with the Sir Michaels rollpan and the smooth cowl I bought from Steve & Co. Should look awsome!

Tim

I have a politically correct answer, they both look good & each have their own styling attributes. Lloyd

Thanks for the input. I've always thought the stock taillights were the weakest part of the truck. Ok on black or red, but not silver. After posting the original, I printed both black & silver pictures on 8x10 to compare them side-by-side, and decided that I like the silver better.
FYI, these VTech light covers are a really good fit. However, the idiots stamp their name and part number on the OUTSIDE! It's going to take some careful filling and sanding to fix that.

White2000SVT,
I decided on the Cervini's ram air hood (#130). I saw a red L2 around here with an F-1 and I knew that second I had to have a custom hood. The Cervini won the coin toss.
I will definitely post some B&A pictures.

I dunno guys, have you checked out the "Warning...scary pictures inside" post?? Be careful how far you go tacking styling cues to your clean attractive Lightnings. It's a slippery slope!!!! These guys down under probably started small too. Now look at 'em! They've got J.C. Whitney's disease!!!! (All in fun).

Don't worry, the wing I'm getting won't extend more than 4 feet behind the rear bumper. And wait till you see the 6' extensions I'm putting on the exhaust pipes! I'm staying away from the Disney motif though. I might go with Daffy Duck or Sylvester the cat. Or maybe a pink bulldog.

Just kidding about the bulldog, that would be really tasteless.

I like all 3. Never seen black before its kind of growing on me. Buy a extra set and change off every month, keep the cops guessing. I'm sure you will make the right choice.

Mark, When you get your hood painted and installed, would you please post some pictures? I have a silver L as well and would love to see how your hood looks. Which hood did you decide to go with?
