Chrome Wheels
Does anyone know of any place that does exchanges on chrome Lightning wheels. Seen a Red Lightning in Tennessee at the Rod Run. Got to have some.

Hey SCSVT, I asked the same question a while back. Fordsales on this board gave me a name of a place in California. Santa Ana Wheels Phone # (714)630-0308. Hope this is helpful. It's on my list of things to get but I'll wait for next spring.
Does this $500 charge include chrome plated center caps as well or not? If not, how much extra are those? Also, can anybody that has actually done this exchange with Santa Anna attest to their quality? I have been looking at the ones on the F150 online store and they look great. Are the ones from Santa Anna of that quality or what?
Does anyone hava a picture they can post of a black lightning with the chrome wheels? I have only seen them on red red trucks. Brad

The highest quality chrome plated wheels I have seen to date are done by Platecorp in orange ca. they do alot of the aftermarket wheel companies and also some of the car manufacturers wheels. I had a set of 93 cobra wheels done out there and they were beautiful. had them 4 years never a problem. platecorp does the triple plate process which is copper, nickel and chrome for the highest quality. If santa anna wheels uses platecorp than its a good deal. if not you can check there website at www.platecorp.com I won many 1st place trophies with those chrome wheels on my 93 cobra.
All chrome plating is triple plating because chrome will not stick to steel or copper only nickel, which will not stick to steel only copper, which will stick to steel hence for chrome you first have to plate the steel wheel with copper, then nickel, and then chrome which is where the term triple plated comes from.

Noel, Your info is almost right. Having grown up around the family plating shop since birth, I can tell You the facts. Chrome needs a nickel base to stick to steel. nickel won't stick to aluminum without copper. some plating shops use double nickle then chrome. but to plate aluminum, copper must be used. That is why any chromed aluminum is "triple plated". steel can be plated without copper. Lloyd

I also heard something about California having to use a different process which results in an inferior product due to environmental restrictions. Anybody know if this is true? Four years without a problem is pretty good.
Yes,That is a fact. The envromental issue does in fact change the process. Its not just in california but all over the country.I had my wheels done by WWW.hwmotorsports.com and I could not be happier.Plenty have been able to still chrome nice but it has changed quality! Ive had two sets done .The HWMOTORSPORTS ones came out great!! My other ones looked like ****.They were all wavy and the corners showed all the copper with no chrome and they were cloudy not clear.
