Question Gear swap question

Hi all,

I just got my 3.73 gears from FMPP and noticed that there was a chip on one of the teeth on the pinion. the chip is about 1/8" x 1/8" x 1/32" deep. It's on the end away from the shaft on the inside face. I took the gears back and asked them to order another set. My question is should I have sent them back. The parts guy tried to tell me that if I had them set up correctly that this part of the pinion wouldn't swipe. I am thinking that under hard deceleration it is possible that there would be contact in this area. Any feedback is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
W

Question

why take a chance on installing an obviously defective part?

Thanks. I don't feel bad about sending them back then. I just hope the replacements get here by the weekend.

I remember seeing a post about a 4.10 gear Lightning going 13.9@101 or 102, stock pcm, not sure about the filter.

Forgot who it was.

Cool

Tundra- I think you were referring to me.
I ran 13.91@100.78 mph with just the 4.10s and PSP filter, in the hot, clammy 95+ degree Fla. weather. (actually only .2 tenths faster then stock 3.55s) Reason PCM was short shifting the trans @ 4650 rpms because of the speed sensor in the rear end.
Installed a PSP 4-way chip ran 13.47@102.45 mph.on F1s.
Added 10.5 M/T E.T. Streets and ran best pf 13.23@103.98 mph.
Wheels-Hope this helps?

Dan

does anybody know the results of putting in 4.10 gear? it seem that with so much low end power and truck already running 1.9 60 fts it would be hard to improve. i had a mustang and when i went from 2.73 to 3.55 i picked up .2 of a second all in the first 60 feet. i know have a 383 firebird that had 3.70 until i shredded the ring gear at the track. i put the stock gears (3.27) in and actully went .1 faster and picked up 2 mph.
