Question 3:73 vs. 4.10's

I know the 2001 L will get the 3.73 gears. How much improvement will I see by going with the 373's over my 355's? I drive 75 miles a day and need a little gas mileage. I'm getting a BIG 14 mpg now...LOL!
Since installation of the R9 chip once my truck gets into 2nd gear it feels like more gear would help it "spool up" faster. Not a racer but want to smoke those pesky Corvette Yuppies!
Thanks for the advice.

  • Awaiting UPS arrival of Airaid box/Autophysics 10" filter (by 9-20-00?)
    Then it's track time again!

Cool

Ryan2KRedL-Dan here,
Gears,Gears,Gears!!! I'll have a set of slightly used (strip only) Ford Motorsports Gears for sale in a couple of months. Making the change back to 3.73s for NO2 Reasons and a quicker 60 ft.time. 4.10s launch alot harder then 3.73s especially with 26" tall tires at the track.

Thanks Fordsales. I was actually looking for personal feedback on what people liked or disliked and real world tests.

I installed my 4.10's about a month ago and love them. Surprisingly I get 14 mpg in the city and about the same on the highway, about 14.5!! That is consistant too. The worse I ever got was this past fill up and it was 13.5 mpg doing all city driving and stomping on it all the time. I can't tell you how much improvement time I have because I havent gone to the track yet, although right after I got them I actually had a slower 0-60 time by .5 seconds. I am not sure if it is because the gears were new or that I just could not hook up good.
The biggest change I noticed right away was how fast the motor spools up. You stop on it at any speed and it revs up instantaneously and goes thru the gears like there is no tomorrow!!! Glad I did them but and can't wait to get to the track next weekend to see how they do in the 1/4.

I think all the threads relating to gears on the FAQ's are just that.
