I have heard about htat problem before. I talked with a Lightning owner and he said one of his plugs blew out in a car wash and they had to replace the entire cylinder head. His transmission also went, then a head gasket or something went. Ford took care of it all though.

Well, hey Paul! Didn't I ask you a while back about dynos here in Ontario?

Oh well. Go to all that trouble to get you a filter and what do I get? Nothing!!!!

Kidding. Anyway, now that I have an R9 chip sitting in my hot little hands and moments away from its install, I wouldn't mind visiting said dyno shop.

With three chips, a filter kit, and a Pro-M 80 MAF Sensor, I should be able to get some constructive info.

Talk to you.

WHAT04

After installing the R9, give us a report. I'd like to see if you love it as much as I do.

How about a baseline with no chip at all to start with!

Hi Tim...

I am totally sorry about not letting you know! I found out late on Friday evening (about 11:30 PM...well for some it is late!)) and I basically had to say yes or no and of course I went. I have all of the information for you and I will e-mail it to you at home.

Tundra! Now don't be scaring me Bud!
Seriously...a frost plug is nothing to worry about. It is the one on the lower area of the block. Lots of pressure in that engine! Thats a good thing. Now if it holds together, that will be wonderful. I am glad it happened on the dyno and not on the highway. I kept checking the dipstick and there is no coolant in the oil whatsoever.

All is well!

Talking My Dyno Run!

Hi Buds!

Well....I finally did it....I went to put my 99 L on the dyno and man was I pleased with the results!

I was invited to go with the F-Body group from Toronto (that I started with another member 5 years ago) and had great time. Some of the cars made some excellent power and some were so/so. However, when I went on
there with my beast....the heads just turned!!!!

The place was Mobile Dyno Services in Milton Ont., Canada. The gent was very pleasant and was very enthusiastic to have me there. Kudos to the F-body group who allowed me to join them as well.

Anyways....the long and short of it all....

345.9 rear wheeel horsepower.
423.7 rear wheel torque.

WHAT A MONSTER this truck is. My only mods are a PSP filter and a Borla catback exhaust. Wait till that Superchip goes in and then we should be having some fun.

I am in the middle of scanning my dyno sheet in and will post it shortly!

One major problem that I had was that my frost plug popped on the final run. Its the one that that has the block heater attached to it over the oil filter. Coolant was pissing everywhere. Oh well....no biggie.
There was a mustang shop two doors down. He put my truck on the hoist for me and I simply tapped the o-ring in and pushed the plug back in.

However, I will go to the dealer and get them to put a new one back in today. Watch for this plug on your trucks as someone else told me they were having problems with them.

anyways....a great day!

Heehee...
Not to be blowing my own horn or anything, but weren't most baseline L runs were around 280-320RWHP, and me with just the SHM chip with their MAF system pulled close to 380RWHP; hence does that mean I just got an extra powerful Lightning before mods. If not, that means there chip was already pulling at least 30 HP cause I can't see a maf pulling more than 30 HP.
Other solution: both my MAF and chip are from the same company and maybe had been tuned for eachother, so mix matching different companies together is reducing the effectiveness of some companies products.
Lets not start a flamer, (been wanting to ask this for a long time, but don't like the hacks) is there anyone else that bought the SHM chip and MAF at the same time with no other mods and did a dyno run?
Maybe I'll just mount a big S on the back of my L... it's a bird, it's a plane, no it's SuperLightning... LOL
Ahh, if every company had the perfect product, we'd get bored very quickly, nothing to do on the weekend to get away from the wife for a couple hours, working in the shop.

Cheers

p.s. does anyone know of a 69-71 corvette that's a junker, but still restorable. Just needs the original motor/tranny, good frame "identifiable" body. Doesn't have to be running. Preferably with the T-tops. Under the $1000 marker. Email me please if ya do. Need a new project car.

From listening to the various posts, RWHP for a stock L runs in the range of 320 - 340. I know this guy that has a Superchip and a Pro-M that's running 375 RWHP, so your numbers seem right in line.
