Post Clunk Reply

To 99Lightning, thanks for reminding me about the rotation pattern.

To SCC2000L, after reading your reply to my earlier post, I called my SVT rep and he said that he talked to an engineer that swore that there was no TSB yet for the front end fix. Did you by any chance get a part number or something I can use as a reference with my dealer?

Thanks

Check http://www.alldata.com i think they list it as a rear noise when cornering.

That says "rear" not front:

00-8-4 APR 00 Noise-Chattering-From Rear During Turns or Cornering

BEARIT,

When I get home tonight I will look at my receipt and let you know what they did. I will also call my service rep and see if there is some sort of number on the TSB that your dealer can use to look up.

BEARIT, in my case on my 99, I had to have the lower control arms replaced because apparently the correct SVT control arms where never installed at the factory.

Part numbers are XL3Z-3078-BA and XL3Z-3079-BA. There may be a green SVT sticker on the control arms, probably on top. Might also be a small yellow sticker with the part number itself printed on it.

My problem manifested itself with the "clunk" noise, an occasional very loud bang noise and erratic steering including excess pulling and lane hunting. It was a chore to drive the "L" on the highway.

It took three weeks to get the parts. Overall time for fix was 5.1 hours.

I have a long post on this date 01/29/00. Search under user "redlite", if you are interested.

Okay here is what the ticket says.

POPPING IN FT END WHEN TURNING LT OR RT VERIFY WITH CHASIS EARS FOUND L LOWER CONTROL ARM BOLT LOOSE AND TIE ROD ENDS POPPING REMOVE BOLT INSTALL LOCK TIGHT AND TIGHTEN INSTALL BOTH OUTER TIE RODS AND ALIGN AND INSTALL ALL CAMBER AND CASTER ADJUSTERS TEST OK

Here is a list of the parts
Quantity/fp-number/description

1 F65Z-3A130-AA SCKT ASY - STN
1 F65Z-3A130-BA END ASY-STNG S
1 E2FZ-19554-B FORD THREADLOC
4 F65Z-3B236-BB CAM & BLT ASY-
4 F65Z-3C178-AA CAM-FRT SUSP U

That looks like all of the important information. There is no mention of a TSB on the receipt but the tech that worked on the truck said there was a TSB on it and he installed all of the parts. Hope this helps you guys.

Sam
