Arrow your thoughts on something I'm considering

I would like to have your response on something I'm considering.

Concerning the Lightning Logos on the side of the L's.

I am considering power coating the entire Logo to match my paint but leaving the bolt on the logo as is.

What do you think it would look like? The "Lightning" would blend into the paint and the "bolt" would stand out.

By the way, how does one get the logo off with destroying it?

try working a piece of fishing line behind it and using that to ease it out out of the fender. I have not tried this, but I got the tip from 2000BlackBolt....I believe his brother used this method.

Cool

Jim,
I don't have a clue how to remove them, but when you find out how let me(us) know how you did it. Cuz I'd be up for having the same thing done...I'm all for the black out look.

I just wanted to see if what I thinking about would look good.

I know the Logo would have to be heated with a hair blower type instrument to soften the stickem behind the logo than fishing line seems like a good idead.

I'll get in touch with SIXPIPES

Jim, will the logos stand 400 degrees needed for powder coating? I dont think so. Regular paint may work and if you mess them up, they are available for about 15 bucks to replace.

My thought is that you have way too much time on your hands.

Alphadoggy

I just laughed, thanks.

You are right. Now that I'm on a sabbatical for awhile, I do nothing but think, what can I do next?

PD

I drove the L over to a powder coating company and they said they could do it.

I will drive back over to have them make sure with the temperature in mind.

Thanks

You are correct. I drove back over and had them take a better look. And they said, sorry, they couldn't do it.

So, I'll go another route.

Cool

The pins can be reached by opening the doors and using an instrument to help push the locator pins out. You may also use fishing line but a blow dryer won't be much help because the adhesive requires a higher temperature than most hair dryers will reach. You really need to use a solvent like mineral spirits to soften the adhesive before removal. If you have a lot of time on your hands, I think you can reach the locator pins by taking the inner fender skirts off.

Anyway, I think you will like the quieted-down look of black emblems. It is also a heck of a lot cheaper than welding the locator pin holes and repainting the fender. Good luck and post some photos when you get it done.

Jim,

If you had a black truck, you wouldn't have to worry about it!
