Cool 1st Night @ The Track!

Went to Rockingham Dragstrip in NC tonight and tried out the Lightning in the 1/4 mile.
I had a 2.08 60 foot time, 5.90 mid track time and went a 8.99 @ 79.8 mph and a 13.94 @ 99.6 mph. That was with the O/D switched off and letting the transmission shift on its own while keeping my foot to the floor. Tire pressure was 32 psi. All bone stock with stock airbox! Can't wait to get the Airaid filter system and Superchip R9!!!!
Does this sound about right? Also truck has only 2200 miles on it.

Thumbs up

Ryan,

Your truck is running just fine for a stocker with so few miles on it.

Given the _same_ weather/track conditions, you'll run solid mid-13s (13.4-13.5) at over 102mph with the chip and filter mods. Both will make a huge difference for you.

2.00x 60' is excellent for your first time out. Actually, that's good for any night. Best I've ever recorded in my 8-9 passes down the strip in my truck is a 1.95...I've only raced on the stock tires. So, you're doing great so far!!

Hey Coolva....I thought this was a FORD Board! Haha. :-) Your Preppie Club Cab is running pretty good I have to admit! But wait until my filter and chip come in and I get some sticky tires! Weather was between 75 and 85. I ran at 9:30 PM.
Here's the actual numbers:
R/T - .508
60' - 2.086 (spun tires about 5 feet)
330 - 5.901
1/8 - 8.999
mph - 79.80
1000 - Not Given
1/4 - 13.945 (alot better than Ford states of 14.6!) ;-)
mph - 99.60

Coolva You didn't mention that you had a blower, just "bolt ons". Yes its a bolt on but most people think of pulleys, filter, MAF, etc... as bolt on. Blowers and Nitrous are considered Power Adders, not bolt on's.

I find it hard to believe that you went from 15.8 to 13.8 with just 8 lbs of boost, (non-intercooled, with that heavy of a truck.

I guess yer rite... but it really is a bolt on =) No oil lines, nothing, bolt it on, connect the inline fuel pump, and go...

Anyways... 15.8 to 14.92
put the SCer on.. 6PSI
14.92 to 14.1
24# *FORD* injectors =-)
8# pully
Mopar Puter and Hypertech PTM
14.1 to 13.8
FMU Recalibration
160F T-stat

Now looking into an intercooler, I can get one made for under $100, and can drop me .5 secs, just installed an MSD 6A, and getting an M1 intake manifold in october from a good buddy who just bought a L =)

By november, I should be damn near 12's =)

I respect yalls L's, cuz they are damn fast stock..

This is one reason I want to make my truck faster, to see the faces of some of the L's when I pull a faster time then them... If you go to www.dragtruk.com you'll see a L is the fasest at 7.x at like 150 MPH =)

I just want to have a fast truck, that no one thinks is fast =) a Club Cab, and not even a R/T =)

if anyone is in the area, bunch of us are goin to the track (Virginia Motorsports Park) on Sept 30th... come on up, down, what ever and have some fun....

Well, Coolva sounds like a pretty cool DAK pilot to me.

Doesn't diss L's, just spends the money to catch up with them which is the American way.

Like to run a fast truck sometime. As posted earlier, no F Bodies or Mustangs will run L's here anymore and I'm getting tired of trying to outrun 12 cyl MB's, BMW's and those damned 12 sec. rice rockets. Unless I catch a bad driver, I get beat almost everytime. (insert smiley that I can't get to work anymore)

I think its lame that Mustangs and F-bodies don't at least try and run us with our L's. I mean, it takes so few mods ($$-wise) to get the things (F-bodies, especially) into the high-12s.

Probably the biggest reason they don't try an L at a stoplight is b/c its now common knowledge that the L is great off the line, and in most "street" encounters which will never go past 1/8 mile, the L is very tough...bone stock or otherwise.

Wes Tarbox:

I think you have hit the proverbial nail right smack on the head.

Probably 90+ percent of the owners of high performance vehicles never take their rides to a drag strip or an autocross or a hillclimb to actually measure in a statistical way the performance of their purchase.

They either street race, and I agree with you that drag racing on the street for practical reasons is usually limited to about 1/8 of a mile, or they go out canyon carving if they own that type of vehicle which surprisingly enough can include a Lightning.

Thanks to the "Gods" of vehicle design and specification, there are rather few vehicles of whatever stripe that can keep up with a Lightning properly launched for that 1/8 mile street encounter.

Those 12 cyl Euro beasties I was talking about can just about stay even to that range and then pull away and the rice rockets are usually a bit behind up to about 80 or so before they get up on their cams and eat my lunch. I must say that the CLK 12 cyl MB roadsters, though, with whatever traction control they have will usually pull me pretty much all the way if the driver is serious.

But then, I didn't spend 80K dollars either.

Bill
