Transmission additive
Had the mechanic service my tranny today and put on my new pan (thanks Spiro) and he had mentioned an additive that helps in cooling and keeps tranny fluid from foaming. Anyone know where to get this stuff. The mechanic could not remember the products name.
Thanks
Jerrod

Jerrod,
Redkine makes a line of transmission additives. beware that our truck uses Mercron V not III, II, or I and it is a full synthetic. I would discuss this with Redline before installing.

Where did everyone find that this truck uses Mercon V. I cannot find any info in owners manual or otherwise that this is what it takes.
The owners manual (Lightning supplement) says Mercon, dip stick says Mercon, and dealer says Mercon. Can someone tell me otherwise

Manual says look on dipstick, mine says Mercon, not Mercon III or V. Dealer sold me III which is what they call "just Mercon" when I changed my fluid for the pan upgrade. I bought it from them at 2x cost just in case I have problems and they say I put in the wrong stuff. Not saying Mercon 5 is a bad idea, but I want to try and keep my warranty intact. All ATF's are already loaded with anti-foaming ingredients, which is one of the reasons some people use ATF as an additive to motor oils.

When I had mine changed I was talking to the tech who would do it about synthetic in the tranny and he pulled out his book and looked up the L and it said Mercron V and he showed it to me and said Mercon V is synthetic so we went with the Mercon V. Beware page 12 of the Lightning owners guide supplement says that Mercon and Mercon V are NOT INTERCHANGEABLE. DO NOT MIX MERCON AND MERCON V.
Actually page 216 of the owners guide says the 4R100 transmission comes with Mercon and not Mercon V. If you change it change it all including the converter and you shouldn't have any problems. I noticed an imporvement in the tranny right after the fluid was changed. It seemed more crisps like when it was new. Since mine was changed at the Ford dealership my motto is Don't worry, be happy, if it blows Ford will fix it.

We put in Mercon V at the factory, I'm prety sure, I'll double check it tommorrow and post here.
We build the 5R55N and certain models of 4R70W also, and I know that they get different than 4R100s do, so wait till tommorrow when I'm sure. We don't exactly buy it in quarts so it's more involved than looking on the labe. (we get it in railroad cars)
