Unhappy

No shift kits, and no visible fluid leakage.
I guess I'll hit the dealership and see what they say. If anyone has more ideas though I'd love to hear them.

Mine has always taken 2-3 seconds to shift from Fwd to Reverse or vice versa. I thought about taking it in but is more of an annoyance than anything.

My D-R shift takes a second or three as well... Been that way since day 1. If I shifted from D-R with minimal wait, I'd chirp the tires when it engaged.

Interestingly, I put mine in the shop today for the annoying "Service Engine Soon" light and they said that they "had to order a part to fix something in the transmission." Hmmmm. I wonder if this changes the way the D-R shifts.

Post Loose transmission?

When I am on even a slight grade with the gear selector in D and then switch to R to back up, the truck rolls forward 2-3 feet before reverse engages. Same thing going from reverse to drive. I never noticed this being a problem until recently and it seems to be getting worse. I have 30K miles on my truck and was wondering if this is normal ....

Sounds like a warranty job unless you put a shift kit in. Wasn't there a post a while back from someone on this on this board, maybe not, anyways, this person had the same symptoms, and were getting worse, was covered under warranty, something to do with the clutch plate, and was loosing fluid as well but wasn't leaking out the bottom. Can't really remember.
The old vehicles it was the bands slipping. Don't know about these rigs.

cheers.

took it to the dealer today. "No problem found" was the diagnosis. Of course, they always say that the first time. I'll try it again in a few weeks.

Nathan

You had it easy at the dealer. I stopped last Thurs when it was convenient
for me to have my leaking shock replaced and they asked if I had an appt.
I said " Do I need one ?"
They said “Yes we are scheduling for Wed of next week.”
[[Apparently Next Week is More convenient for FORD. I wonder if they could do more work faster if they hadn’t Cut the pay of all their Mechanics after the most profitable year in their history……. But I digress…….]]
I said “Ok my Front shock is leaking and needs replaced. “
They said “No problem quick job you will be able to wait on Wed if you want “
I said “SUPER. Do you have a front shock for a 2000 Lightning. “
With no hesitation he says “Oh yes.... “

Any way I walk in today and go straight to the Parts Dept and ask
if I can buy a shock for a 2000 Lightning –
“Sorry sir we have to order it it will be in Tomorrow at the earliest”.
I then walk to the Service guy say good morning and announce I am there to have my shock looked at.
He says “no problem give me the keys.”
I said “as soon as you show me the part.... “
He said “We have 2 “
I said “No you don’t I just left the parts dept……”
“When did you check with parts ?”

Well you get the idea…. Supposedly there were 2 shocks there when he checked last week but they were Special order and installed on Saturday… Yeah right…..

So now I have wasted part of 2 days so far to get a 30-minute replacement of a $45.00 part. I get to go back tomorrow to try again….. And to think I pulled my chip for this !!!!
