The new Z06 Corvette...
I don't think we've got much to worry about guys. I raced a brand spanking new 2001 Z06 Corvette at Orlando Speedworld last night. I ran a 13.729 @ 100.79 mph, he ran a 14.098 at 101.69 mph. I jumped out of line and missed a round just so I could line up against him. He had a lot of wheelspin at launch but it still seems like a low 13 second car. It was sweet looking. I also ran a new best time last night. 13.591 @ 101.6 mph. I'll post the timeslips Tuesday when I get back to work. I've got a 2000 L running stock except for a PSP flip chip.
2000 Black....What time did you run last night?I thought about going out but it was too hot.The last time I went, the track was in better shape so I got a better launch.Maybe I could meet you out there with some other locals. What do you think?
Glad to hear you beat him.
However, I've seen 3 of these dyno'd and they're all in the 340-345rwhp range bone stock. With the weight of a Vette vs. our trucks, it takes only a simple understanding of physics to realize that if our trucks make about the same or even a little more HP...they still will be down .5 in ET or so. I'm assuming an aggressive driver for each vehicle.
I have no doubt that, in the right hands, a stock Z06 will run high-12s on stock radials.
Nonetheless, great run to you! A win is a win, no matter what.

Y2KBLK: We got to the track a bit late. Ran from about 7-10. I actually only got two runs in. After my 13.591 they told me no more runs without a helmet. I knew a needed a helmet I just haven't had a chance to shop around for one yet. I like to get out there about twice a month so maybe we'll run into each other. I'm really looking forward to the cooler weather as I haevn't had a chance to run in anything less then 80 degrees yet.
WA2FAST: No doubt his car could do better. For one thing it was his first time out in the car. I'm sure the motor is still tight too. Based on his 60'/mph/et though as the car sits now it could probably only run a 13.2. Then again he might not have been shifting at the right times either. Oh well a kill is a kill!

Well I'll say this...
If I bought a Z06 and it didn't run at least 107-108mph through the traps (even in 85+^F heat), I would be one unhappy camper. I would have to figure he was short-shifting the crap out of it. But, maybe not.
If they run 101+ on a day an L with just a chip runs 100+, then the guy bought a stone.

2000 Black....That's a good time in this heat!I think I met you and your wife at the track before.Do you also have a Mustang? My best 60 at Orlando is 2.003 That was my last run out there.I can't wait to see what times we can pull when it cools down.Congrats on the kill!
WA2FAST: You haven't heard the best part. The guy traded in a Ferrarri for the Z06!! He was pretty much the talk of the track crew last night. I felt kinda bad for the guy. He just needs some practice I'm sure.
Y2KBLK: Yes that was probably us then. We have 3 mustangs and my wife is always racing one of them. We've probably met but I don't recall. My best 60' in the L at Orlando Speedworld is like a 2.045. Maybe we can meet next Friday if it doesn't rain?

Well, I/we (wife and I) now have the best of both worlds:
99 white Lightning w/PSP
2001 white Z06
One Ford, One Chevy, one auto and one stick, and I am happy driving either one. The Z isn't broken in yet, but it sure feels real strong. There is some great machinery out there.

Forget the Z06, car & driver tv just showed a Lingenfelter twin turbo C5. 650 hp! Ran a 3.5 0-60, 11.09 1/4, and averaged 223mph top speed! The 1/4 used vht on 2/3 of the track and still had traction problems. Cost is $105,000! Unbelievable part is they said 15 were already on the street. Half of them have no decals to identify them as being modified they said. So watch out at the strip guys, don't get suckered into a race with an average looking C5 without knowing what you are really up against.
Bring it on! No, I don't have the gearing to run top-end with that thing (although they swapped gears in the Lingenfelter car when they did the top speed and 1/4 mile acceleration tests), but I didn't spend $105k.
And while its "just a Mustang", it's also mint and a car show winner.
I'll be happy to race 'em to 150...on the track of course.
