Check Engine Light
I've got about 1500 miles on my 2K L and the "check Engine soon" light just came on. I've had a SuperChip (street mode) installed for about 1000 miles. Seems kind of early to be seeing the Check Engine light don't you think? Anyone else have their check engine come on so soon? I am going to disconnect the battery and reconnect to see if that makes it go away before taking it to the dealership. Any thoughts?
Thanks!

If you really want to help, just post the link without inserting your retarded "newbie" smiley link. If you don't then don't. I've already searched and did not find anything specific to the superchip and check engine light.
make sure your gas cap is tight. take it off and put it back on , with a couple of clicks. mine (2000L) did this once, and my SS camaro did it all the time if i shifted too hard and banged loose the gas cap. takes a couple of startups/shutdowns and a few miles to go away, though.

Thanks! apologies to FORDSALES too, it is quite annoying to see "Service Engine Soon" on a brand new vehicle... Also, you seem to do alot more good than bad for the message board. Does anyone know if leaving my SuperChip installed will cause a problem when the Dealership runs diagnostics on the L?
Thanks again!
Thanks again!
LHound,
Disconnect your battery and pull your chip before you take it in to the dealer, if you have to. Otherwise a code will come up and the dealer may be upset.
But first you should pull your chip, disconnet your negative terminal first to reset everything, and see if the check engine light comes on with the chip out. If not then it could be the chip or the connection. Did you tape the chip down? Are the contacts really clean etc.?
Hope this helps.
Good luck!!!

Well, disconnecting/reconnecting the battery seemed to fix the problem for now. If it is something serious I'm sure the "service engine soon" light will come back on. Still hasn't come on for about 6 engine cycles. Since the light is off there is no sense taking it to the dealership. They probably just disconnect/reconnect the battery to fix it anyway...
