Red face MM&FF tested cat-back---- NO GAINS!!!

As most of you know Muscle Mustangs & Fast Fords has a white 99 stock "L", last mos they tested it @ the track & ran (as they say in this issue) a probably unable to reproduce 13.3 @ 102. The track conditions were PERFECT for that run. Anyways they slapped on a cat-back exhaust system, took it to the track & then 2 the dyno. Well lets just say they were very unimpressed! The truck lost hp & tq.

They were running the Borla cat-back.

On the Dynojet, they lost 2.1hp. Like they said, this really amounts to nothing. Could be a number of factors. The real point was that they didn't gain anything from a $350 modification.

They did go run the truck at the track and it was slower, BUT, air conditions and track conditions were considerably worse than when they ran that silly, bone stock 13.37 or whatever (in admittedly _perfect_ conditions).

In other words, your mileage may vary. At least that's what I got out of it.

You would think that with decreased back pressure that you would get better times out of the L. My camaro gained 2/10ths with my headers and cat back that I had on it.

i also want to know, how some lightnings can run 13.3 stock. Granted I have been to the track twice and I am still a rookie, but that seems kinda far fetched even under ideal conditions.

The Lightning exhaust is supposed to be a very well designed match for the stock engine.

I would imagine that without changing the air filter to an a bigger intake kit, and the throttle body, that changing the exhaust would have any effect besides sound.

I hear it takes a while for the mufflers to loosen up on the packing . I don't know if it is true. But I can tell you my Bassinni's are getting loader the more miles I put on the truck .... Even a few people have noticed the same.

They iced the s/c down and they have really good drivers making these runs. Plus they had some really good weather and good track for traction. All these together is how they got those #'s.

P.S. Icing your SC is real bad since the clearances in the SC is so tight, this can cause a clearance problem between the rotors and the housing if they are not the same temp and the housing will cool faster and the rotors will take alot longer to cool to the same temp.
