Does *just* changing the octane code make a difference in the performance? I called a local SVT dealership here and talked to the service advisor. He had no clue what I was talking about and asked me to print out what I read on f150online so he could take a look. I then called SVT and was told that all the Lightnings are always set at 91. This is what the SVT guy on the phone said an engineer there wrote him. "The settings do exist in the processor and they are intended for certain export applications where the vehicle may be shipped to countries with significantly lower octane fuel. In these cases, the calibrators can set two different spark calibrations and they can identify what octane they are calibrated for. The primary is always the default, and the alternate can be activated by the end of line test stand or the dealers. For the Lightning, and any other F-series truck, they only use one spark calibration and since the end of line people know that, they don't bother to flash the octane number at the end of line station. The default number that always shows up is 91. But even changing that has no effect on calibration."

axe,
Read my post above. The Ford Tech showed me the reading in his computer. No octane default was set in the PCM..... it was blank. So a 91 automatic default does not compute when the trucks memory was read and nothing was set in the octane. Maybe no setting is 91, but the Tech did not think so and put 92. Yes it did make a difference and within 100 miles,,, the truck would spin when traveling at 15mph. When before just scratch them from a dead start. Truck had 10K miles on it so not any of this not broke talk applies.

Well after calling the local Ford dealership (Cheyenne, WY) and explaining my problem to them they made me an appointment but told me it would be about 120 dollars for 2 hours of labor. I said it is detonating they said "so". So I am going to the dealership in Fort Collins on the 12th. Just thought some of you may run into this, also if you are in the WY, CO area don't go to the Ford dealership in Cheyenne.
