Question Need Help Finding the RC Lightning Model

A recent Ford mag showed a 1/10th scale RC model of a Lightning and said it was only available at the SVT On-Track event. When I went to Cresson (Dallas) this past weekend I expected to be able to buy one and was told they didn't bring them. I phoned SVT and was told to check with hobby shops that sell Tamiya RC cars and trucks. After a bunch of phone calls I still can't find one that will order one of them for me - and don't have them in any catalog.
The hobby shop I talked to about them said they were $125 but come without a radio - and the SVT trailer rep said they were $250 for the complete kit with radio. The hobby shop said that Ford must have made a special deal for the entire "kit."
Nothing like making it complicated!
Somebody must know where to get them!
Thanks in advance for your help!

I'm not sure what you're actually looking for. There are plastic models of the Ford SVT Lightning here : http://www.etoys.com/toy/g/product/100/22/27/

I'm still looking for this web page that sells the r/c version.

Hi Mega Zap , Here are a few places to try . www.hobbypeople.net ($159.99 complete kit-w-radio) www.ehobbies.com (goto r/c section, then hit Tamiya ,on the lower left column . I think the Lightning was on the 2nd. page , complete kit , for around $175.00.
E-Hobbies also has free shipping on orders over $100 . I have ordered alot of items from E-Hobbies , they have good service , and a very easy to use site with all the stuff you will need to get rollin .

You may want to try to contact Bill Murray privately by e-mail. I bought one from him about 9 months ago or so.
Good luck!
I believe his address is mostoysinc@aol.com

I did the Electric car thing a few years ago. Learned a couple things.
1) get an electric speed control, the wiper arm resistor types have no reverse and are a pain
2) if you like the thing and plan to use it a lot get the bearing kit. The bushings that come with it slow the kit down and wear out.
3) Get a decent charger and a couple batteries
4) Make sure you get a pistol grip radio. It is easier to drive with a wheel for steering and the trigger for direction and speed.

The tamiya RC Lightning is a popular kit available from http://www.ehobbies.com/product_deta...log=RADIO_CONT
http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...1&I=LXGA59&P=7

Decent pic of the kit being built http://www.rcmonstertrucks.com/tamiyaf-150.html

As you may have gathered the Kit prices are just the begining...

Doug

Get with Bill Murray on this as he owns a hobby shop. I did the group buy about a year ago with all the upgrades and man is this thing awesome. Although I wish I would have gotten a predone body as I messed that all up.

Fast Gator
There was a group buy, about a year ago. It would probably be best to contact Bill personally since he does own the store he speaks of, and it wouldn't conflict with any of the site rules.
