Just though some of you guy's might like to check out this drop kit from http://www.californiasupertrucks.com...lower-f150.htm since I see most use other brands.

 

Why did he go with smaller tires (255/40)?

That's a misprint on the wheel/tire size. He may be running a narrower or shorter tire than factory, but those are the stock L rims which are 18", of course.

I seriously doubt he had a custom one-off set done just to get 17" rims...that'd be silly. However, he may have indeed gone to a shorter tire in order to get it to fit under the fenders.

Yes, that is a misprint on the wheels. I couldn't believe also that they had a lift kit for the L.
