Hey i saw a 4by4 Lightning this morning.
On the way to school today, i saw a jacked up 4by4 extracab F150 with huge tires and the Lightning emblems. I thought the truck look cool until i saw the emblems. Also saw a green f150 with lightning rims the other day. I really dont like how all this stuff gets sold to people without lightnings. Just my opinion though, i'll probably get flame from it.
Black2000L,
I agree with you! Their is a Black single cab STX F150 with a Lightning front fuscia i see each morning. If you want a vehicle with Lightning emblems buy a Lightning.

I'm with y'all. That sucks. What bothers me though, is that Ford folks seem to be the only ones who swap badges. I mean, when was the last time you saw Vette badges on a Corsica? I see Cobra emblems on Mustangs with the "GT" bumper all the time. Who are they trying to fool? JMHO.

Its great when you come across a SS or something that says:
"I am gonna smoke you, I raced one last night, and it was like it was a regular F150"
Then the next light comes around and you can tell them how it was just @#$king with them, that is if they even ackknowledge your presence.
BTW I saw a red Expidition with the front fascia, but he had running boards. It still looked nice. Don't think I would like it on a regular F150 though.

Duck01,
Ford people arent the only ones. Look at all the SS's that arent SS's, or the type R's that arent R's. I think it is really universal. People dont have the $$, but want to seem like they do.
---
Alot of work has gone into the lightnings in all aspects(Handling, HP, Looks, etc). When other people who do not have a lightning adds our badges to there truck(car or whatever)it weakens the name for us all!

The last time I went to the track, I saw the inevidable lemon-yellow Dodge R/T but with a twist.
The owner removed the "R/T" decals and replaced them with metal badges off a '69 Charger (I was corrected when I said Challenger). It mixed old school with new. Upon closer inspection, the dash had been painted to match the exterior. Looked cool. The times were par for the course for an R/T (don't remember, too slow
) The owner was a cutie to boot so we chatted until she asked me what I drove. The second I said "Red '99 Lighting", you'd have thought I just off-ed her kitty cat. ICE COLD....Doom on Speedy..
Oh well....she's cannon fodder anyway.

And then there is the flip side of the coin, people who are running deep stealth. I pulled into my local ARCO today next to a very nondescript looking early 90s 'stang convertible without any identifying badges. The owner complemented my on my L. Then he fired up the 'stang and took off, and it was evident that he had more under the hood than I would care to deal with. In a way the L. is a stealth vehicle because your average Mercedes or Beemer driver doesn't have a clue what they might be going up against, but I would still love to have a deep stealth vehicle, like the AMC Pacer with a blown 454 I was talking about.

Wow! I don't see that much down here. I have seen a few kids with SS badges on S-10 trucks, but that's about it. The only fake Camaro I know of is a buddy of mine who has all the Z-28 stuff (badges, exhaust, wheels, tires) on a V-6. Maybe my eye just isn't that great and there are some V-6 "SS"'s waiting to be humbled.

A freind of mine has a Mint (HA HA HA) 86 Chevy Nova. You know, those ones that were an insult to the true Old school Novas.
I want to modify it. I was thinking an IROC windsheild banner would be sweet, some type R stickers on the rear, VTEC and random japanese letters on the side, and a Cobra badge on the front fender to boot.
Oh and of course I'll have to paint the side mirrors yellow to get some real performance!

This poser thing has given me some really good ideas.
I have posted before about some stealth/beater vehicles I still own that in their prime were in the ball park with a Lightning in terms of 1/4 mile times and speeds but looked like heck.
My thought process goes like this:
1. There are any number of aftermarket and/or gennie badges, ground effect packages and so on that one can put on a non-Lightning F150 to be a poser.
2. I am a majority of one, but I do not like my Lightning wheel/tire combo from an appearance standpoint. At age 60, I am pre "Old School". I like tall tires in the rear and shorter ones in the front. I also like a simple wheel design. Anyone remember "Steelies" with caps? My '56 F100 runs 8:20x15s on the rear and 6:70x15s on the front and it is way cool. Granted, there is no way I would run it over 100 mph for more than 13 seconds, but it cruises just fine.
3. Then, I could "debadge it" and run standard F150 script on the fenders etc.
4. Then, I'll bet I would get about 200% more folk willing to take me on. Many of us, and especially in Atlanta, just have no takers anymore. Word's out, reputation is solid and no-one wants to get spanked by those "damned trucks".
5. In my HobbyTown store, we sell something called "Rustall" for modellers of old cars and military vehicles. I am really thinking of possibilities here. A '99 Ford Beater.
If I do it, I will send someone pictures so they can post them on the board.
PS: I am just nutty enough to do this. Ask some of the Atlanta L drivers.

So I guess I can forget about puting Lightning wheels on my '98 STX. I was seriously considering doing that and that's it but I don't want to be a poser or anything. If I could take the center SVT caps off that would be all right I guess.
