MAF sludge

Hello, I have a 2000 lighting with about 30k on it. I decided to clean out the MAF sensor today only to find it covered in what I would call sludge. Any ideas what this is from? Is this a sign of something bad? I went ahead and cleanded it out and it seems to run about the same. Also I was getting code p1131 coming up. Could this have been from the MAf being dirty? I bought it from a dealership a few days ago so I know nothing about the maintenence that the previous did. I don't think he did to much. Thanks

Probably caused from an over oiled filter element! Pretty common!

MAF sludge

IT is actually the stock air box and filter. If I upgrade to a 90mm MAF sensor do you have to recalibrate the computer? thanks

Isnt that from the oil that gets sucked into the

air inlet hose? Did you look at the stock, ribbed, air inlet hose that connects to the filter box, and see if there was any oil in there? That is where I found oil in my '04.. Might be a good time to pull the stock paper filter out and see if it needs changing too. Good luck DanF

the oil came from your drivers side pvc hose from the valve cover.....you should delete the pcv system, it will stop the oil problem.

The OEM Motorcraft filters have oil on them. You can see it on the bag the filter comes in.

The drivers side crank case hose sucks air into the engine. There's no oil coming from there.

SW, I dont want to start a classic forum debate but oil indeed does come out of that drivers side cover when under boost, the valve covers are not baffled very well if at all. how else would oil get on the throttle body blades....
