Post service engine light

My 2000 lightning with7000 miles has been showing a serice engine soon light. Local dealer checked the computer and replaced the sparkplugs and coils to 2 cylinders (3&5). This helped for a while but the warning has come on again.Engine is definitely not developing full power since this all began. Dealer is waiting to "hear from Ford" about a possible fix. Anyone else with any similar experience?

docdb,

Do a CALLING to Lightning Bob and/or reality1, I know they have or had the check engine soon light. It would be helpful to get the fault code(s) from the computer, there are some Ford techs on the board that would probably check into them for you. Hope you get it resolved soon.

P.S. Welcome to the board!

Later,
Jake...

docbd

Welcome aboard. I haven't a clue as why the light. I just wanted to say Hi

I have work for Ford dealers for years and it may just be too simple but because the systems that vehicles have today are so intricate that a lot of little things can cause the light to go on. I have noticed that if there is a problem with the gas cap and it is not seating properly, the light can turn on. Anyway that is about all I know about your problem.

By the way, what does docdb mean?

Once again, welcome.

docdb,
This is my best guess, someone here might have more accurate information.
Service Engine Soon Light can come on for a variety of reasons. Depending on Priority, code will stay in computer even if light is off. Battery can be disconnected for a year and that code will be there until cleared. Again, depending on code, computer can/will go into adaptive mode (loss of performance). This open and closed loop thing gets a little complicated for me but this loss of performance will be at partial and WOT (I think this is how the computer saves you from having bigger problems).
I have a new computer coming, not sure exacty why, But I think I was getting various codes caused by computer shutting down Truck for a fraction of a second. This was not enough to be noticed driving but my radar jammer would go into self test, i.e., mommentary loss of power. Something else to think about...This could (?) show up as a spike on Dyno???

Also, check Sals' board for a tech bulletin on Spark Plugs, very important if your getting plugs replaced.

If you get get the code(s), you'll get an better idea of what is happening. Ask your Dealer call hot line if there is a question.(these guys are sharp)
I hope this helps somewhat, let me know how you come out
Jim

Hi docdb welcome to the board. I don't know if this will help or not, didn't see where anybody else had mentioned it but right after I bought my 99 L. I only had a few hundred miles on it when my light came on. I took it back to the dealer & after a few trips back to the service dept. they found it was a hose on the fuel pump in the gas tank. After replacing the pump I never had any more trouble with the light coming on.

Got my L baack from the dealer today. They cleaned the injectors, regapped the plugs,. and reprogrammed the computer. It seems to be running fine, develops 10 lb. of boost under full throttle, and so far no service engine light. Hope this is the end of my problems.Thanx for all the advice
