Thanks for the info. I've got a 98 V-10 and the damn thing has trouble going 55 mph up slight grades pulling a tiny load of 2 quads or 2 snowmobiles. First Dodge I ever owned and for sure it is the last.

Sure our trucks have rev limiters, and I, for one, am damned glad, because otherwise, the way I drive, I would frag the motor in no time. Not that I am particularly satisfied with the factory settings, that is why most of us have installed aftermarket chips. Can't you boys get a chip that will redefine the parameters to your liking?

Alphdoggy: Just think how you would feel if the rpm-limit was 4600rpms and then the engineers give you this bull that the engine doesn't want to or won't make power above 4600; and at the same time their wanting you to give them a few hundred more to RE-BUY an aftermarket computer from them that has a much higher limit.

Talking

Engineers at the factory are concerned about warranty issues. Chip manufacturer engineers are mostly concerned about performance. They have different bosses and therefore different parameters. Spend the money on the chip or buy an old car with no electronics and just turn the distributor.

That is terrible, but I must admit I'm not very surprised. I could have had a new Dakota thru my next-door neighbor at the best possible price and I said no thanks. Mainly because Dodge and Chrysler are not showing much interest in the way of performance. They are the worst at teasing you with concept cars - like the hemi 300M - think they'll ever build that? If they do it will be in your dealer's showroom and they'll be selling it for $90K - about 30 over the sticker. Nothing but disappointment in store for us with that approach.
The Prowler is a great looking car, as is the PT Cruiser, but neither will so much as get a squeak out of the tires from their sissy powerplants, and they underproduce them as a bait-and-switch then can't pull off the switch! That shows me where Chrysler/Dodge is headed. As usual the people running the car companies are missing the target. Just imagine how a rear drive
V-6 PT would sell! It wouldn't be long before the shops were coming out with superchargers for them too. How many superchargers you think will be put on the PT's 4 banger? Could the front wheel drive hold up to it? Heehee.

The Dakota - wow - a pint sized truck with a 5.9 that can't whip a Lightning? Who's the big brained engineer that can only get 250 horses out of THAT motor? Hard to imagine what kind of junk is in there to only produce 250 hp!

Sad.

Hey Dodge - why not put 4 bangers in all your vehicles and then you won't have to worry much about all those big expensive motors breaking!
Dodge lovers - you have my sympathy!

I agree with Mega Zap 100%. There is a Dodge dealership that has 2 dakota r/ts for sale, kenne bell package and everything. They say 375 to the wheels. They have no idea what torque is. They also want $42,000. No mark up there. I also saw a 98 (Oct 99)viper there once, "Do not touch" stiker and everything. $90k.
