First time with L at track...somewhat happy with traps

Well, this past weekend was the first time I had the L at the track. Only got 4 runs but I pulled off a 13.86@99.98MPH with a 2.16 60' time. This is on a stock(JLP cold air) 01 L with 60K miles and street tires. Oh yes, it also has the heavy fiberglass tonneau cover.(Does anyone have any times with and without the tonneau cover?)

Therefore, it's time to go faster. I was thinking of a 4# lower pulley to start and then to follow, a tune and a FTVB. So I would like to ask a couple of questions

1) Will the truck run alright on the street with the pulley until I get a tune. I realize I probably won't be getting the full benefit, but just don't want to hurt anything.
2) Does anyone know of any good tuners in the NW Arkansas/NE Oklahoma area?
3) How much more benefit would I get out of a "custom" tune vs. the "do-it-yourself" SCT/diablo tuner?

Look forward to the responses!!!!

I would find a tuner, put on a 6# and have it dyno-tuned. Do not run this on a canned tune, every engine is different, a good tune will give you great performance and protect your truck. Good luck

do it right...

Find a tuner, even if you have to drive several miles and put it on the dyno. I went with 16 PSI on my non ported eaton for almost 2 years. I used the KB upper and lower pulley combo and their chip for that setup and it was perfect. I also added a cool air set up from JLP. the truck turned 8.21 (1/8) with a 1.9-60'. I drove it like that for almost 2 years, Then i had the SC ported (Steig, stage 4)...got a custom tune from PSP (XCAL2) and it blew up 2 weeks later. Now I have a JLP built set up and a KB

HI!... Just to compare times. My N/A F-150, 5.4 went 13.60E.T at 99MPH with a 1.83-60FT. I believe the 1/8 mile MPH was 80-81MPH.

Those are not bad times for a pretty much bone stock Lightning. What killed you was a sucky 60 foot time. What PSI in your rear tires, and at what RPM did you launch at?? Go to 27psi rear tires, take the slack out of the drive line, say aroun 900-1000 rpms, and then experiment how hard you launch.

With a little experimenting, if the track is prepped half way decient, you should be able to get close to a 1.75 60 foot time. That alone will drop the 1/4 mile time about a tenth. After all in drag racing it is allmost all what happens in the first 60 feet, that effects the whole run.

I would call JDM and have them send you a programer set up for your new mods. It will be pretty dam close, he tends to be a little extra safe in his mail order tunes. Then if you find a good tunner in your area, he can then reprogram the tuner you get from JDM.
