Post Got Them Platinum Plug's Out!

Just a little note.

I took the platinum plugs out today and replaced them with NGK V-Power Non-Resistor Racing Plugs, Part # R5671A-7.

The are just a little colder which will help when spraying nitrous, but the one main thing is they are a hell of alot a safer.

Question

FSU, i've had better luck with NGK's V-power, than any other plug, when it comes to blown nitrous. i used champion racing plugs and experienced detonation no matter how cold a range because of the retracted ground, which exposes a huge spark across the gap. does the NGK Racing plug have a retracted ground, like to the side of the electrode, rather than over it?

Question

Were You having problems with the platinum plugs, or was it a safety issue?

I read that platinum plugs and nitrous don't work well with each other.

Question

Anyone out there written up a procedure on removing the plugs on this vehicle? I consider myself an above average shade-tree/home garage mechanic, and I'm sure I could figure it out.

But it looks like you have to remove the coil packs, maybe the fuel rails, etc.

I can pull plugs on my Mustangs in 20 mins and that's inspecting each plug with a magnifying glass looking for stuff. This truck looks like a PITA.

Cool

Hey Guys,

The plug-changing job was really not that bad. I did not have to remove anything but the coils, which are on top of the spark plug of course.

Took me about 2 hours to do them and the front 4 took 30 min. and the back two took me 1 hour and a half.

They are working just fine for just normal driving, didn’t notice any difference at all.

Jerrod: no noise at all that I can detect.

Speeding Bob: Normal operation is just the same.

Sudsfixer: I was having no problems with the platinum plugs, just wanted to get them out because of the nitrous application. So really just a safety issue!

MRBBQMAN: The electrode is retracted in the housing, but the ground is over the electrode still. Hope that helps your question.

Good Luck Changing Them Plugs!

Matt

Just for grins guys, and I mean just for grins!!

After reading this post, I went downstairs to my garage and pulled out my plug wrench and pulled out and reinserted the plugs on my '56 F100 with a Racing Head Services built 300 Cu.In. Ford straight 6 with full Clifford equipment and triple side draft DCOE 45 Webers. This beastie dynos at a tad over 300 horsepower, and while it won't beat my Lightning I suppose, it screams and is torque personified.

Anyway, total elapsed time, including opening a rather ratchety hood mechanism was, not on a stop watch, about 9 minutes flat. After 2 pretty stout Scotch on the Rocks I might add.

Matt, are you having any problems with static noise since they are a non-resistor plug.
Would be nice to use the colder plug, thinking about running nitrous on the beast and I do want to get those plugs out of there before I have the same problem Sal had.
