Icing on the Cake (or Intake)
So, does icing down the intake ACTUALLY help at all? Here in Texas its hotter than hell and I'd like to find a way to reduce the mushy feeling my truck gets in hot weather. Also, if you are icing things down, where do you put the ice to avoid dampening/shorting important components?
Actually, you don't use ice, as its continued use could damage some components. Instead, do what I do, just go down to you're local Kmart, and buy a bunch of those freezer packs, insert into freezer, freeze, and pack them into the engine compartment. Then at the end of the day, repeat process. Works for me. Just my .02.

Here is a trick for you get some Dry Ice and put it in one of those netted bags that you get oranges in. Use small pieces and they will fit into the valley just below the lower intake manifold. They will squeeze by the alternator on both sides. you do not have to worry about dry ice when it evaporates it goes directly to a gas. When it is all gone pull out the bag and do it again. You can even run down the track with this in place.

How about setting something similar to this up in the intake air stream? Like the dry ice idea, except just beneath the airfilter. But thats CO2 right (I failed chemistry)? Not good for performance.
Maybe I'll have to look for a spot for a small chill bag.

I tried a 10lb bag on the top of the blower a couple months ago. When I got to the end of the staging lanes the truck didnt start. It took 5 or 6 tries then it finally fired. Talking about making me sweat. The good news is that as we all know the truck runs stronger when it is cooler. Next season I plan on bringing a fan to Ennis. They seem to allow people to tap into the AC power. Dry ice can permanently damage some sensitive pieces, gaskets, wires, etc. If you have never seen a flower shatter at the types of temperatures that Dry ice and Liquid Nitrogen generate, you are missing some cool magic. Pardon the pun...

dry ice is frozen carbon-dioxide.
it will displace oxygen trying to come into the intake as it "melts".

I personally feel a fan is the best way, that is if you have enough time between rounds..not to mention electricity
