US Navy 89-95
USS Los Angeles Submarine SSN-688

Good experience but no way could have afforded the L. No regrets since it got me where I am today.

Pretty impressive group, as usual for veterans. Unfortunately I can't claim personal service, but I'm a brat by blood and marriage. Dad died as a Major US Army, following service in IIICTZ RVN Jan '66 - Mar '68. Father in law retired Major General US Army with service in RVN. Brother in law currently on active duty as a Major US Army, having received a well earned Silver Star in Desert Storm. My own personal biggest regret is that I never served. My grateful apreciation to all who have served our country.

Enlisted US Navy, 1957 at the age of 17. Sent to Electronics Technician school, and served aboard a destroyer for a year and change (Duncan DDR 874). Won fleet appointments to NROTC and Anapolis. Chose NROTC so I could chase women. Unfortunately, caught one, and had to drop out after my second year at UCAL Berkeley to support her and the little baby that mysteriously appeared. Worked out great ultimately, in that I had a wonderful 25 year career as an airline pilot.

Don't mean to sound mean but, most of you were in and out before I was even born. I feel so young. Military has made me grow up quickly.

Well SVT-Snake, it takes many generations of us to cash the checks our dummy leaders write by getting us involved in so many wars. Those wars probably seemed like a good idea at the time. But now? Hmmm.

Now we see with Bill Clinton and Co. our military becoming sort of a Peace Corp With Guns or a Military Meals-On-Wheels.
Do we really need to have the US Army digging sewers in Haiti, as an example?

Look at another example. We have 260 million Americans defending, through NATO, 360 million rich Europeans against 160 million impoverished Russians. What's wrong with that picture? And, the list goes on and on.

And we got tens of thousands of people serving in the military who need Food Stamps to survive.

Sorry for the rant. Couldn't restrain myself.
