Question Why do the morons only come out when.........?

I was driving my lil' Honda Civic back to work after getting lunch. I was cruising along at about 32 in a 30 just enjoying being away from work when all of a sudden I look in the rear view and see a POS late 80's Formula firebird and a 2000 Chevy Silverado racing doing like 65 right behind me. I was in the same lane as the truck so the lady driving had to mash the brakes and swerve into the other lane, she got within inches of rear ending me. Afterwards, I watch the 2 guys in the car racing grandmas and other people who were just driving along. Dumb@sses Why can't they pull that crap when I got the truck.

Sorry for such a long post.

Hey now. It gets 35 mpg on the highway and I drive 50 miles to work one way. Put 7000 miles on it in less than 3 months. With gas prices as high as they are what would you drive? Plus, the person who controls the cash flow liked the car (my wife), so I agreed.

SVT-Snake; Didn't mean nothin personal. BTW, my old 95 Sable got 30 on the highway and 22 in town. Sold it to buy my fuel-efficent truck. LOL. Now I drive a tank (75 LTD) to work and it might be worse than the truck!

Snake, with gas prices the way they are now I am sure sorry I totalled my '92 Civic Si in March. It was best all around vehicle I ever owned. Build quality was way higher than Ford. But L. is lots more fun to drive, and the Honda couldn't tow my boat. I don't mean to denigrate Ford, if I could only have one vehicle it would be the Lightning, but I still think of getting another econobox if only to keep miles off the L. and minimize the exposure to the impaired, inept, and insane out there.

Get a motorcycle. I get 35mpg running it hard. But if I ride the motorcycle hard then get into truck and go for a spin. The truck does not feel fast anymore. My bike has made both my Lightning and Mustang feel slower. :-( But still love both :-)

I have considered that, Bill, but even though I think bikes are way funner than any 4 wheeled vehicles I feel that I have already donated a sufficient quantity of epidermis to the tarmac, and at my advanced age I know my limitations, one of which is inability to ride a fast bike (is there any other kind?) defensively. And if I'd been on a bike in the accident I referred to I would not be writing this today. But the really scary part is the realization of how many truly impaired drivers there are out there today, especially the 90 year olds, who would run over you in a heartbeat without even knowing it. I guess if I want those kinds of kicks I'll have to get a wave runner, or something. Meantimes, I want that steel cocoon around me, thank you veddy much.

Hey haven't you gotten the:

"And my OTHER car is a VIPER routine?"

I did this morning. I lined up with a white C5. But I was in my 66 Chevy. I revved, he looked and laughed, so I told him what my other truck would do to his Corvette, considering what happened last time I met up with one. He asks what kind, so I tell him its a new Lightning. I will be hunting for him this Friday...

I will be installing this blueprinted '66 396 engine next weekend. Couldn't come any sooner. Time to save up for a Turbo 400...

Gator,
No harm taken. I would much rather have a fast car to be a daily driver. I was once thinking of dropping a Prelude engine in the Civic and possibly blowing it or turbo it. It would be quite the sleeper. Now, I would rather do that to something that has 350 HP to begin with. I love power. Doesn't everyone?

Thumbs up

I'm with you, Snake. There are some people on this board who denigrate "rice rockets", but a fast car is a fast car is a fast car imo. And I agree that it would be really fun to drive a "sleeper" that no one expects anything out of. There are Civics out there that will totally humble just about any 'vette. I had rebuilt the tranny and put a Centerforce clutch in mine, with a view toward supercharging it, before it went to the great junkyard in the sky. Right now all my excess money is being funnelled into my boat, but someday it might be fun to build a real stealth vehicle- AMC Pacer, anyone?

I saw a fast Honda CRX once, It had a built 455 olds eng/transaxle in the back seat! It also had the stock engine in front. You could drive it with either engine/trans. best of both worlds! Lloyd
