Post not slaphappy(long post)

Hi everyone. Im not new here. Ive only been an occassional contributor to the board so far.
I had my 99 L engine replaced for piston slap last year. The new motor began the same slap after about 300 miles.I waited until the truck had about 34,000 miles on it and brought it to the dealer, just before the warantee was up to get the slap diagnosed and recorded. Fords policy is now not to replace the engines or to act at all. I guess that nobody is sure at this point if this is a nusense(sp?) noise or a catastrophy waiting to happen later. I will probably buy the extended warantee just to play it safe with this motor and the potential intercooler problem. I feel that due to the high risk of these major problems that Im kinda pushed into this extra warentee expenditure.
I know that there are a number of us with the piston slap problems, so I thought it may be useful to all of us to have a list of the people with this situation, in case we need to confront Ford with the fact that it not a rare problem, its not unknown to Ford, or one caused by abuse. If they are not going to do a fix anymore under standard warantee, we may all find ourselves in a ringer at 50,000, 60,000 or what ever miles later.
Sorry for the long post but in summary I am requesting those with piston slap woes to post on this thread for possable future ammunition.

Thanks

Peter

5.I hear a knocking noise when I start my L. Is this piston slap?

It very well could be. The 1999's had problems with this and so far just a few of the 2000's. The
following list will give more information.

Peter,
My first engine had the light "diesel" sound when cold(I live in FL.cold means 60!) it had a presence most of the time, but not as loud. I also had what was described in Fordsales other post as "flutter" on a decel upshift. It is my opinion that the flutter is the pistons. The reason my engine was replaced was it turned into a real good old fashion knock. It sounded like a valve tap to me. I was never told what the problem was. They never opened it up at the dealer. Did they replace the first one without a real bad knock? You might have waited a little too long.
Tom
