Question Z Rated tire patch - Opinions ??

Picked up a Nail on the way to Ennis last night. Very slow leak. I had it patched today by Goodyear. They claim it is still Z rated the patch they use is that good. What do you think ??

They sell the tires for $402 on Sale for $359

Couple Pictures from last night on www.svtlightnings.com

Patching a "Z" speed rated tire is not recommended but however with the cost of these tires I would do the same. The only thing different is now that patched tire can only go up to 112 mph safely. You can however take it up higher but at your own risk.

Check out Tirerack.com for tires if you need them. Best price I could get in town was $299 with a 5 day shipping time. I got them from tirerack.com for about $225 I think and they got here in 3 days.

Hope it helps

Aaron

Thanks to the good info available here I called TireRack from TexasMotorPlex and ordered a pair of tires. They will be here Thursday. Even if I decide to run the patched tire - At the current rate I will need new tires soon anyway.

The patch doesnt give me a warm fuzzy about going over 100 though....

I posted a picture of the offending nail, on my web site.

I've never had any success with patches holding except with the one that is a combination plug/patch. I just plug'um now. you don't even have to dismount the tire or disturb the balance. They work fine. I've had mine to 140 many times after the plug. No problemo.

Just like Noelvm said, a patch/plug is the best. I have at least 3 in my set of original F1's with out any problems. In fact I just discovered another leak, and just might try the plug this time. My tires are well worn with 23k on them, no reason to waste the extra money to dismount for this repair.
