Finally Got Seats Repaired
Well, as some or most of you know, the seats on the 99 Lightning (and probably the 2000)have a problem with the seat frame on the outside of the seat cutting through the padding. I got mine repaired last week and the statements from the guys in the auto upholstery shop where none too reassuring.
Apparently, what they referred to as the bolster bar is quite sharp and will cut through the padding and eventually the cover. Just a matter of when and not if.
They repaired the drivers seat which was just about to get a cut cover and the passenger seat which showed no obvious problem yet. My drivers seat was showing damage within four or five months of purchase.
How you guys doing with your seats (in the truck, that is)?

Just had mine replaced last week. The shop the dealer sent me to was very good. He wrapped the frame in a padding before the new foam and cover were put back. I also had my carpet replaced due to sticky yellow crap on the heel pad under the mat. Now its new again!

Yeah, I got that sticky yellow stuff on my heal pad too. Does not amount to much, so I have been ignoring it. And, you got your carpet replaced because of it Blue Blood? Must have been bad.
I watched the guys repair my seats and it looked like they where periodically spraying something into the padding area after they pulled the cover back.
The shop owner, who has been in business a long time and apparently repairs seats, etc., for different manufacturers (Chrysler and Dodge for example), says the seat frames are flimsy on most new vehicles. He thinks the manufacturers are trying to save weight and probably money too. And he says God help you if the electric seat adjustment breaks. It costs about $600 to be replaced. Apparently they are a bitch to fix.
