Firehawk... can anyone give me some info?
My son wants to get rid of our 71 Cutlass conv. He wants a 94 Firehawk. What the deal with this car? Whats the difference in it, and a Trans Am or a Formula. $14,000 for a 94 Black with T-top and 47,000 miles. I think they only made 500 of these in 94. It is not real fast, the guy list his best E.T. as 13.89 @ 98.00.
Thanks in advance,
Jerry Jordan

Jerry,
Those are pretty cool, for an F-body.
Seriously, I'm a bit surprised its only run 13.8/98mph. I've seen a number of them bone stock run mid-13s/102-103mph on radials.
Doesn't mean much, though. With only 47k miles, I bet its in good shape. I believe they were rated at 300hp...over the regular LT-1 motors at that time which were 285hp.
I know they have the big snorkel hood that resembles the Ram Air T/A cars of today.

Thanks for your help Wes. I just got back from looking at it, and it is perfect, except it is black (too hot in Texas). I just don't know how to find out how much it is worth! I wonder if it would hold it's value very well? Also it scares me to think about a seventeen year old with that much power in such a small package (even though he has never had a ticket in the two years he's been driving). Don't think you would come out very well if you got in a wreck.
Thanks, Jerry

Hey Jerry,
I poked around some at www.edmunds.com and www.kbb.com and neither list the Firehawk for '94. However, I plugged in a loaded T/A with moonroof and only 47k miles (obviously low miles for a '94) and the guy isn't really very high as far as retail price goes. Not when you consider that they really did only make a few of them.
As far as holding value...well, I don't believe any late model car has been around long enough to really set a precedent of whether it will hold its value or not. The '87 Grand National is the only car I can really think of.
But, if its a really clean car, and seems to be in excellent mechanical condition and the _previous_ owner wasn't some 17 yr old kid
, then if you get it for 12.5-13k, I think you've done pretty well. Then again, you could get a '94 Cobra with low mileage for ~$14k, too. Just depends on what you and your son like. But, I don't think $14k is way out there on that car.

From the little knowledge that I know about F-Bodys being a owner of one, the fire hawk was Pontiacs equal to the chevy Camaro. I'm not truly sure about the safety of the older models, but I do know my 99 Camaro was rated #1 in Crash tests for a sports car. My car has always kept me safe, even when I spun it 3 times in the rain at 75 mph (NOT 1 SCRATCH!!) thank god.. In your sons defense, If you think he can handle the responsiblity of a Firehawk, then I say go for it, it's a pretty good price in my opinion. And they are a very fun car to drive!
