Cool New Red 2000 on the Way

After much deliberation and a LOT of time on this site, I have narrowed down my long list of new car choices to one vehicle; the Lightning. I am getting a RED 2000 on 'A'-Plan to be delivered to me in Detroit at the end of August when I move out there. I have not yet found a place to live, but I do have a car to drive when I get to Michigan.

I sold my 89 Lincoln Mark VII LSC a couple of weeks ago, and am now trying to decide whether I should sell my Saleen or hold onto it for a little while longer.

I just wanted to thank everyone for the wealth of information available on this board. It definitely helped to sway my decision towards the Lightning. (Of course test driving it 4 times at 4 different dealers didn't hurt either).

WOW....that's a coincidence. I've got a triple black '97 S351 supercharged speedster and just bought a silver 2000 Lightning for daily driving duties. I Love the truck, you won't regret it. Just been browsing through here looking for ideas. Already have Pro-M bolted in, waiting on Superchips to recalibrate their "new and improved" chip. Got it mainly to haul around my KTM 520 EXC trying to kill myself in the woods. Anyways, you'll love the truck, and don't sell your Saleen. The 351's are no longer being made, never will again, and investment values will be very very good. I put 16,000 miles on mine, and luckily, not a single blemish. Now it comes out only on the occasional sunny day.

Oh yeah, to make things even freakier, my driver before the Lightning was a '93 Lincoln MK VIII that I picked up used and dead cheap a little over a year ago. And I'm in the process of selling it now (although I hate to, it was a great car). WEIRD WEIRD. You & I must be twins seperated at birth, like those stories you see on tabloid TV.

WOW

That is quite odd. Same color Saleen and everything! Maybe we just both appreciate kool vehicles. Got any motorcycles?

You mentioned that there are no more 351's being made. Are you referring to the model or the engine? As far as I know Saleen still uses a suped 351 in the current S-351. (I hate the new mustang body though, even the saleen).

The KTM 520 EXC is an Austrian-built dirt bike, and it's friggin AWESOME. I was lucky to score mine, the production is low and the demand is real high right now. It's orange & silver with chrome dual exhaust running down the passenger side, just like the Lightning, so it looks mighty trick strapped into the bed of the silver truck.

Saleen built some S351's in the new body style, but it's all over now. No more will be built. Word is that they're developing a supercharged 5.4 mod motor to take the place of the 351 Windsor as top dog, and I would imagine that the "S351" name would not be carried over. But who knows, Shelby built 428 powered cars and called 'em GT-500's, so who knows. But it just won't be the same, I seriously doubt that the 5.4 (even if it's more powerful) will tremble and shake the whole car around at idle like my 351 does, and I doubt it will sound as beautiful at full-bellow as the Windsor. Sometimes old technology has qualities that makes the hair on the back of your neck stand up compared to the new stuff.
